The A plan in the new contract is going to be put in the same plan as the managers DB plan. What that means is that IF they ever try and screw with it at some point in the future, they will have to screw with their own plan and you know that aint gonna happen! I hate UPS as much as the next UPS pilot, but lets get real here. UPS is NOT an airline so don't compare it to the legacy carriers. UPS is one of a handful of AAA rated corporations in the world. They and their pension plans will be around for the long haul.

That is why I chose UAL in 99.....

THAT’S why I chose UAL over DAL in 1970. Had to work with the best intel available at the time. There WERE no freight haulers back then and UAL was the undisputed domestic big dog. I REALLY wanted to get on with PAA and be an International pilot <G> . . but they were hit by the recession brewing earlier than the others. Isn’t “Providence” great!

The situation has drastically changed -and while it might be the ‘cool’ thing to do -to stroll around the pax terminal in your spiffy uniform -the dark side of the airport, eating crew meals out of the junk food machine is the future of good aviation jobs in my studied opinion.

Had I gone back to UAL when they called in 1979 I would have had a good percentage of retirement in UAL stock, no? Instead of sitting here at the keyboard I would likely be putting on the WalMart vest and driving to my ”Greeter’s” job. Or practicing in the mirror, “Would you like fries with that?”

Going back to UAL would be a step of extreme faith; that they will even be around in 5-10 years. I don’t believe they will and my heart beaks for all the good folks who put their entire lives into the venture and will be left with little to nothing in their old age.

GO WITH UPS . .and don’t look back! The only thing better for you would be to have a number at FredEx, as I think, overall, it is a better place to work. BUT, as pointed out previously, these places are NOT airlines. They ARE **EXTREMELY** profitable corporations, who will provide excellent pay, benefits and retirement packages for many decades to come.

Good thinking but you know management will find a loophole around that one somehow if need be.

From someone on the outside looking in.. It would seem like UPS is somewhere to go and never look back. That's the kind of job I think most of us aspired for at an early point in our careers. It's only after time in the industry do we see with a different set of eyes what really matters to us. After all that keyboard dribble... take the one with the big tits..

Hi freightercapt
can you email me at [email protected]

I have some questions about UPS if that is who you fly for.

hyflyt560 01-07-2006 10:37 PM

Go to UPS, give me the GV job while I wait for recall at United, and I'll thank you for the one number increase in seniority...what do you drink?

United could end up being a crap shoot. I might not resign my number for a second tier cargo carrier, but certainly for UPS, FedEx, Cathay, etc.

Thoughts

I started at UPS in 2005. In my new hire class, we had three folks from UAL who had been recalled and were sitting in class in Denver when Big Brown called. All three of them came to Louisville without much fanfare.

As for nightime flying, I think around 40% of UPS flying is day? Someone can back me up on those figures. I know my last three flights I had to root around in my flight bag and look for the sunglasses; wipe the dust off. Maybe this is a product of sitting reserve?

It might change but right now, I am living my dream job. And making $26/hour to boot!

Just curious, is IBM an AAA rated corp? (Not trying to be a smarta***).
