It's "part and parcel" of the way things go at this place. Maybe not so much ingrained within the pilot force, but other parts of AOD, and the company: damn the torpedoes (rules), full speed ahead.
When you walk firmly, and carry a big stick, some day you'll run into a guy with a bigger stick (IRS).
Fred, meet Beauford Pusser.

Assuming that the company can afford this, and I suspect that they can, this can go a long way toward equality in the workplace for all these drivers, who by virtue of FedEx calling them "independent contractors", have managed to not pay them benefits that they should have been earning all along. As well, this might start a unionization movement amongst them.

I'm not sure why all of the fuss. These guys all applied and received these positions as "independent contractors." Some are making great coin and want to keep it that way. Others not so much so, and are now beatching that they should be employees...
