VIPS Server Too Busy...Ut Usitas
#1
Vent on. Well it's feeding frenzy Thursday and as usual the anemic computer system at Air Operations can't keep up with the number of First Officer's trying to trade up.
Guess the money that was going to be spent on mainframe infrastructure paid for someone's bonus. I wonder if customers ever get 'server too busy' messages. I'm guessing not. Vent off.

This week I was trying to access the Macy's website on 26 Dec and guess what?? I received the "server to busy message" but couched in better terms than we see in VIPS. I never thought I would see it outside Open Time, but alas, it really did happen!

I ran into the guy who manages the VIPS server a few weeks ago. Apparently these automatic trip trade programs all hit it at the same time and cause it to lock up. We're all trying to send our trades at the same time, so what's the answer? They won't upgrade the server just to accomodate one day a month. Maybe they need to stagger based on crew position and airplane?

I guarantee that fedex.com can handle more than there average daily traffic. I guarantee that if that server got too busy even once, they would upgrade it.

That guy is ridiculous! I get the same VIPS server too busy message on the days that the Bid Award comes out, the Secondary lines come out and of course during the OT frenzy. These things happen every month 14 times a year with our bid months...I would say that 42 days a year of guaranteed consistent lockups would be enough to validate a server upgrade for ANY IT dept.
