Default FDX: GM Supplier Discount

Anybody ever used the GM supplier discount from the green screen? I called a local dealer who touts a sticker price of $100 over invoice, and the GM supplier discount is about the same as invoice from several websites, so not much of a deal. According to the dealer they don't move off the supplier price, but I wonder if I go in and walk out a few times they might give a bit.

I had a buddy (non-FDX) negotiate a 2008 truck last week $1200 under invoice from the same dealer, which is possible due to holdbacks, etc., but that may be specific to each model and not a blanket deal.

Has anybody used the discount and negotiated a better price, or have you found it better to do it the old fashioned way and walk out 3-4 times until they shave off enough dough?

No, when I bought my Avalanche, the dealer wouldn't budge on the Supplier price, as that is a direct deal with the manufacturer. However, with my GM card points and the advertised rebates in effect, the deal the dealership offered was better than supplier price. Didn't have to walk out, as they knew I could do Supplier or better. Now, if the vehicle is popular, with no rebates or incentives offered, the Supplier price might be a better deal.

I've used the discount twice now. If you want a really popular model that isn't discounted, it's great. If there are discounts being thrown your way, it might be cheaper to negotiate your own deal. The supplier price is not negotiable--it's on the invoice and that's it. You will get rebates added on to that price but sometimes it's better without the discount because you can do better just by negotiating.

Remember, the supplier discount is only available if the dealer will accept it for a certain model. Sometimes the dealer says "NO" if it's a hot model and moving fast. Don't give up and be sure to try multiple dealers. It took me 6 before I could get the diesel truck I wanted.

Last year I purchased a Surburban. Compared USAA buying program and GM supplier discount. I ended up using the info from USAA for negotiating, and negotatied a better deal than eithe USAA or GM supplier discount had.

Walk in there the last day of the month, with just a few hours left in the day, if you know what you really want and the dealer has that vehicle. Don't forget to ask for a military $500 discount in addition (if it applies to you)
