IMHO, while I wish well on all, many will not make it all the way to 65. Some will have overriding health issues. Some may just call it quits at 62 or 63. Some may not make thru training. Some may spend a year as FO and say enough is enough.

I remember someone had info on a significant number of medical retirements with the under 60 crowd. I'm betting that percentage will increase with over 60 members.

I agree with most of what you say with one exception. Whereby guys turning 60 may retire at 60, Dec31 of the year they turn 60, or 61, the guys who have been on the panel, hoping that DW would return them to the left seat, are here to stay. I just can't picture some guy plumbing for two years, checking out in the left seat then thinking it's time to go 9 months later. The more likely outcome is they stay till 65 hoping the age changes to 70. Has FH started the lawsuit yet. He's all over this age discrimination stuff.......(although he was a late convert, about 58 1/2 I'd say)

This makes a ton of sense from a cost/business perspective....especially if you don't have any type of A fund.

Any company would love to legally turn over their employees every 5 yrs at the low end of the payscale --- not just airlines.

30 yrs of aviation... There is life after FedEx/aviation. Try to enjoy retirement.

Now you're thinking.

If the A-plan is little used, there will be little incentive for the company to try and negotiate it away.

This could be the secret plan behind optimizing.
