I don't think anything is really going to happen on a grand scale with this, but the problem is not the airline operation for DHL. It's the ground delivery network. What does Fred get out of it? Do you think Fred is just a nice guy and will help DHL deliver its packages without taking the money shot of flying express with it? Nice thought but it will never happen that way. If anything happens at all. What Tractor Bob posted makes the most sense not just because it will provide more money for FedEx by filling up the planes with what should be guaranteed space (used or not). But that history proves FedEx did that exact same thing with Postal. Ask the guys that flew the mail how much they were integrated into FedEx. Fred has his fingers in it, it is to the benefit of FedEx more than the other party. Best hope is that this is all speculation.

It makes sense if you're on the outside looking in. The problem is the ground network. If it happens it will be a contract to deliver to remote locations within the ground network and smaller cities, or it will be the full monty. DHL gives over everything US to FedEx. That's why I don't think it will happen the way TB's manager says. It doesn't really matter. All will probably be revealed on the Mar. 6 Interim Report.

The benefit to FDX would be: a. Fedex wouldn't move the freight for a loss.
b. DHL's rates would have to rise to cover their costs. c. If DHL's market share goes up, FDX wins. d. If DHL's market share goes down, its probably FDX picking it up....FDX wins.

Fred has always had it in for DHL. No news there.

It was FDX management on a FDX airplane.

Yesterdays jumpseater said that DHL is pulling out of 9 states. He did not know them all but said ND and SD were on the list. FedEx will make those deliveries for DHL.
