Question Hawaii - Alaska commute?

Currently ONT based but I’m tempted to bid ANC 744 FO, move to Hawaii and commute to ANC from there.
Do y’all know of any HawaiiAlaska commuters? How hard would it be? I believe Alaska Airlines has a direct flight to and from ANC?

How expensive is it really to live in Hawaii? Is it comparable to California? More or less?
Also, for the current ANC 744 guys/gals - do all your trips start and end in ANC or do you have commercials every now and then?

Any info would be appreciated. (Except if you’re junior to me in ONT – then I’m not gonna trust your biased opinion )

Hawaii is very high-cost. More than ONT. Gas is $3.46, food probably 20-30% more than what you pay depending. Median house is around 615k more for somewhere you would want to live.

Is there any service from PHNL-PANC. I ferried that route before but never on a regular basis.

Just curious.

Hawaiian used to do a charter 2 or 3 times a week for Hawaiian vacations (different company) I think Alaska bought them out and now runs the trips.

Alaska does fly direct between HNL and ANC. Hawaii is a cool place to live depending on your situation. I lived there for two years and was single at the time. Schools could be an issue if you have kids that age; I'll probably look into private schools if I go back there.

The cost of living is pretty expensive, but if you're retired from the military the cost is offset quite substantially due the large military bases on Oahu. Groceries cost significantly more off base. The wx seems a little nicer than AK, too.

Which island would be the cheapest (least expensive ) to live on? With the inter-island travel so cheap nowadays, I guess I wouldn't have to limit myself to Honolulu area only. I'd imagine buying a condo must be cheaper on Kauai for example than on the main island. Unfortunately, I'm not ex-military so I'd have to put up with the off base food prices.

Any Alaska pilots here – are the HNL-ANC flights year around or seasonal only?

Still hoping to hear from current ANC 744 pilots on the types of schedules they have – any commercials or are all your flights in & out of ANC?

Public schools are a HUGE issue in Hawaii!!

If your kids have half a brain be prepared to send them to private schools starting in middle school.

Cost = $8-$14K per year/per child.

Hawaii may appear to be "paradise" while on vacation --- but can be a serious financial struggle with a family, if you are not very wealthy.

A'o Aloha
