Bingo! This DP thing does nothing but create a rift between us and them ("us" being the ones who don't fly DPs, and "them" being MEM MD-11 Captains, who seem to fly the lion's share of Open Time DPs...).

The message line includes a list of DPs which were flown this week with a link you can click on to see the pairing. Is that enough?
I have talked DPs at both meetings I've had in MEM, and will continue to work with folks explaining why its important. I'll also include that info in my block letters. However--do you really think folks are picking them up not KNOWING its wrong?
Again--I KNOW it sounds like a cop out--but YOU GUYS have to be disgruntled voices in your crewmembers ears...

.If the message line includes a link to DPs flown this week it can obviously include a list of DPs flown this week, the names of the dudes that flew them, and the status of the pilots that picked them up. Who do you think is going to sue us? The company or the dudes to chicken excrement to stand behind their actions. If they sue us what the heck we are in the black this year.
PS any money spent on this would be potentially less money to spend on vote Obama reeducation camps.

Ditto on the Obama camps.
If I were king, there would be no DPs. I was king, if there were DPs, we'd use fighter pilot norming to help address the issue. Alas...I am a union official with a fiduciary responsibility. (Translated--don't F--- the bros out of their money...) None of that has changed my morning ritual...I still shave that upper lip.
I personally think the DP thing is moving in the right direction. I see more and more guys making a PERSONAL choice NOT to fly them. I think APC is a big part of those choices.
As for BGY's question--click on the pairing, then click on dude's names. If the pairing in question was picked up on reserve, you'll see the VIPs reserve green line under the pairing. If not--it won't. It does take a minute to poke around, but you can figure out what is going on. If the calendar is blocked...well...I think you can make an educated guess.

LET'm take us to court. I'm willing to spend the money At the very least it will highlight the problem, and Hopefully be the spark that will rally the masses!

So, are you willing to roll over and allow 4(?) more years of bidpack degradation?
I'm not. Let's figure out how to get these morons to see the light. Hey, it wasn't that long ago...many people didn't think we could get enough people on board, to even organize this place. We've come a long way. But, we've still got much further to go. This will be good practice for the upcoming negotiations.
Individual resolve takes education and collective pressure. Seems to work in ANC.

And if it was picked up voluntarily and you know the person, contact them and ensure they understand the process.

Could someone please explain to me why the union could not start a campaign, simply to educate the membership on the issues associated with disputed pairings. It wouldn't be directive in nature, which could be construed as leading the crew force to not pick up these pairings, thereby enticing a number of legal RLA issues, but it certainly could be used to explain the ramifications to the crew force, when a DP is flown voluntarily. After all, making the crew force aware of the ins and outs of the contract, must fall somewhere within the purview of ALPA.
To continue to seek changes to the contract, in order to fix this issue, while in actuality, doing nothing to effect change, is futile, and in fact, plays directly into the Company's hand. They want nothing more than to delay changing this (for them) money making issue. After all, they have been masters at getting us to "wait a little longer" for changes that should have happened yesterday. I'm not saying that during the next round of negotiations, this issue shouldn't be addressed... it should! But for now, I believe, the union should be concentrating on educating the entire crew force. Then, fix the problem at next contract time, so that our individual contractors will have to find another way to screw the rest of the crew force.

Well I'm not willing, as I'm sure others aren't either. I'm not supporting anyone who flies DPs, but I sure don't want to line their pockets through a lawsuit. If you don't mind lawsuits, then go ahead and confront them yourself.
