No we are not asking for an inflation raise............we are asking for a legitimate pay raise that will reflect in our W-2's.We are also asking for SCOPE protection (protect American jobs flown by americans)and some work rule/scheduling protections to counter Back side of clock flying.(ie. Life shortening) and we are asking not to have our Health insurance premiums raised 400 %.
As for mgt if they're fattening their pockets b/c they can then thats not right either. I'd be curious to see the $ amount that was given mgt vs the $ amt to give the pilots a raise. ?
Lets see, about 6 months ago the BOD awarded the top 20 officers 350 million in bonuses................That would have just about funded the improvements we were asking for!

Does that paint a clear picture for you!

And I say 10 years if someone began growing a new company today. Richard Branson and company are starting Virgin America with a few hundred million. You would need 10 billion to start up a global package deliver company.

Which leads me to another point. If Polar/Atlas or Gemini tripled their fleets and continued to buy large aircraft they could probably make tons of money as subcontractors to the big 3. That is why scope is so crucial in these next contracts. We are blessed with the most stable jobs in the industry. The only thing in common we have with out pax airline brethren is that we fly airplanes. UPS/FedEx are in no way comparable to the legacy airlines!!

Lil J Seinfeld:

I'm not an economist or anything, but have any inroads been made on the African continent? Does the Big 3 have a route and package delivery system there?

I did some work in Sierra Leone, and there's no economy there. The are cannibals there but I don't think anyone wants to overnight a cannibal except to their in-laws:D . Wars between landowners, gov't, and squatters are pretty serious. Coup d'etats are a normal. I think the only real commerce would come out of South Africa.

Also for the guy who said we'd be out of business soon due to low cost start-ups and scanned documents. People can now send low cost packages, it's called the post office. I would rather pay a little more, make sure that the package gets there in one piece. Fortunately for us, we now also carry the postal priority and express letters, which is big business. Dangerous Goods are another big money maker that you can't cut corners. When you look at the planes being loaded you'll see a lot of big containers, none envelopes but packages. It's hard to scan/fax/e-mail that item you bought on e-bay. As more documents are being sent electronically, there are also more and more online purchases everyday. (Notice UPS got the e-bay Canada.) Look at the FedEx (and I assume UPS) hub during the sort. There's a lot more packages than letters. Yeah things can always go south for any company, (that's why I have a backup plan/degree) but I think we do have some good leadership that will keep on top of the changing market.

What do Hats have to do with supporting your Union? I loathe the stupid hats we wear and would like to see them dissappear like the Edsel did back in the '60's.

The only guys I know that truly enjoy them are the bald dorks.:D

PS, I admire your guys support of the Union. I wish we had an effective one, (ours has been emasculated and the current MEC are a bunch of eunuchs).

If you would have read my previous post about picketing on Wallstreet when it was cold outside.....You would understand............................

Plus the Company buy's our hats/emblem............... so if 4700 pilots asks starts wearing hats.................it sends a small $$ message of Solidarity:cool:

captjns 02-17-2006 05:50 PM

I was sorry to see that the parade of hats did not make front page news on the Wall Street Journal.

Guys, it ain't the "hats" that creates solidarity, it's pilot group.

I really don't think anyone gives a rats ass about the hats Chicks don't dig them anymore anyway. Also, they are a pain in the ass to pack when dead heading in plain clothes.

dckozak 02-17-2006 11:00 PM

Show me your hat, I'll show you mine

We keep saying it but you guy's don't get it.
Weknow the hats don't mean a thing by themselves, its a symbol to use to get the companies attention. think about it. Our management know Pilots hate the hats, all they got to do is look and see the lack of them worn in the crew room. Now if all of a sudden lots of pilots were wearing their hats and knew it was being done to make a point about the frustrations about negotiations, it would be a powerful message.

Oh baby... Oh baby:D

Chicks don't dig them. Unless they have a lot of bags, then they do- cause they think you are the Sky Cap!

To all Fedex pilots:

Yesterday I attended the Bay area ALPA meeting and listen to Captain Webb talk about a hugh list of issues that concerns the pilots and management of Fedex. As a 20 year veteran of Fedex, I seen the good and the bad of what Fedex thinks of its pilots. My next trip which starts in a few days will be flown with my hat on my head. Its our time to step up to the plate. If management sees guys that haven't had a hat on there head for years, it has to send a clear message. We control wants going to happen in the near furture of these negotiations, wear the hat!

Wow! Another golden oldie. I still have every red letter that I've gotten from Fred since I started with the company. I drag them out occasionally to remind myself that I don't work for nice people. I also share them with the new pilots and try to give them some perspective. I also carry a copy of the advisory letter that Watson issued me about 5 years ago. I'd still love to run into him on a layover.

PILOTGUY 02-26-2006 07:22 PM

stupid,

I am not a Fedex pilot and do not pretend to everything about what they are dealing with right now. Maybe the pilots are just looking for a fair contract since Fedex posted a 1.45 billion dollar profit in 2005. Seems like they should get a little bit of that back.

I do agree with you that they have great things at that company, but the attitude that you showed in your post is why mgmt. is attacking the workers all over the industry with paycuts or raises that are not worth a damn. "I would do that job for less than that per hour." That is an attitude that you can't bring into this industry.

I think it is ridculous to get wrapped around the axle about were the scope money ends up as long it is a good cause. As long as not a dime goes to retired guys who were non-members.
