UPS - Ont Base

How does ONT rank in the UPS flying system in terms of number of flight operated each day? SDF is first, I assume, but how about after that? ANC, MIA, CGN?? I think I have seen it here before, but what aircraft and seniority numbers can you find at ONT? Expected growth at ONT? Or more likely ANC?
Thanks!!

It is a 75 base with about 300 crew members. I believe they do all sorts of flying from domestic stuff to Pac rim flying. Maybe someone from ONT on here can give more info.

An ONT bio....

ONT has 151CA/140FO's Fleets 757/767

Domestic Flying could be to anywhere in the lower 48, depending on who is working the schedule planning computer that bid since the new domestic contract limitations have crimped the company's style on a few formerly nasty runs in ONT and Domestic. Has PacRim 10-15 lines and HNL 5-10 lines of flying out of 74 hard lines, 2 half VTO's and 8 VTO lines.

Jr CA 10yrs on property, Jr FO 1 yr on property.

Base is smaller than SDF domestic, SDF Intl, and will be smaller than ANC when it is staffed up to plan. Don't know the size relationship to MIA offhand(i think it is a bit bigger, but wouldn't be significantly larger or smaller in either case).

I believe that ONT is the junior base in the lower 48, and was senior to ANC prior to the over 60 moves. 7 CA's were recently displaced, and base is rumored to be fully staffed, and has been for about a year. Rumors have circulated that -400's could be based there due to ANC ramp space concerns, repeat Rumors. Enough A300's run around out there that a domicile of them would not be a big surprise someday either, rampant speculation on my part, fwiw.

This information should be considered outdated by the time you finish reading it.

Good info JP.

FWIW ... ONT has the most junior FO in the lower 48, or will effective July 13.

But systemwide, I think the most junior are now on the DC8 panel in SDF.

lol, guess I had totally forgotten the over 60 factor, but what do you expect on the last day of SVT anyway....

I'm just glad the last round of fun left ONT pretty much alone wrt displacements, I wasn't in any danger of having to find a new home, but was hoping my QoL wasn't going to get messed with too much, and it didn't.

ONT is a great base if you want to stay away from the madness. You can walk from the parking lot to ops in 5 minutes and the ACP's are low maintenance enough. I wouldn't count on any growth until the 767's start coming. In fact, we lost 7 Capts, and I know we are losing an ONT-OAK trip and thought I heard we will lose one of the HNL's. As the big jets take over more of the Pac Rim, I'd guess we'd lose out there, too. When the 767's start coming, I think there will be more flying for ONT and SDF.

I you are a UPSer that wants to live near the left coast, ONT is the way to go. I'm a Spokane commuter to reserve and I think it's a great deal.

The downside is you can never count on a good line pairing to stay the same. We do flying as far east as MIA. RFD-SAT-LRD, which was a good deal for a couple of bids, got STL added on, which makes it a bad deal. This last bid seemed to have more fillers than usual, as well, on the clean lines. I think there is something for everyone in ONT. It's the best deal going at UPS, if you ask me.

How senior do those Seattle-Spokane turns go. The ones where you leave at 5, stay in Spokane for 11 hours and then go back to Seattle at 1800, and have a 31 hours there? When I looked at a buddy's bid package those trips were valued at more than 30 hours of credit for less than 4 hours of block!

That is super senior. I can't believe they even build stuff like that.....

MANAGMENT builds them and then a guy like Seg***ki comes along to tell us that WE aren't working enough. Priceless.

If I wanted to work hard for less money I'd go fly for the majors. ;) We don't fly more because we only have sorts twice a day, vs 4-5 banks for pax airlines. Of course I don't get why we need so many "supervisors" since we do so "little" work. But what do I know, I'm just a line puke....
