FedEx 58 Hour BLG
 
I heard rumor of 58 hour BLG on its way. Talking about a kick in the nads. Move back a seat and then take a 10 hour pay cut. Anybody substantiate this?

Where would they get 58 from? The contract says 48 before furloughs. Sounds like BS.

Personally, I'd be OK with 58 hours pay for 9+ days of work for a few months a year ... especially in the summer when I could use some extra time off :D

But I agree with hazcan, the contract says 48 hours ... so, it's probably BS

Maybe there is some "negotiate in private" goin on. For the record I think it is an unfounded rumor. I am not implying, inferring or insinuating anything. But I will wait and see.

The minimum bid period guarantee shall be reduced to a minimum of 48/60 CH before any pilot is furloughed. At least a full bid period must follow the announcement of this action. This provision shall only be used to prevent or delay a furlough.

it says minimum...it can be greater than 48/60...right? am i reading into this wrong?...it does not say reduced to 48/60..seems they can furlough a month after they announce it...thoughts?

The union's impression (and I use this term loosely) is that the company must lower to 48, not 47, nor 49 before a furlough. Kind of like the holy hand grenade. They have hinted at negotiating a lower than 68/80 minimum pay guarantee to aide in not furloughing, but unless something is negotiated, if they want to build to 58, they must buy up to 68. At least that was the gist of my understanding when talking to union guys about it.

I agree with BoyCaptain.

Section 4 2 b says reduced to minimum of 48. It doesn't say reduced to 48 specifically.

It also says this will be done "to prevent or Delay a furlough." It doesn't specify what will happen after a Furlough (should we actually get there).

Can Minimum Bid guarantees be adjusted back up to 68 or there abouts after a Furlough occurs? It is very vague.

At the ALPA Hub Meeting last week DW stated that the company is required to approach ALPA with a request stating that they intend to furlough. To prevent the furlough, BLG can be reduced. According to their interpretation, BLG can be reduced to 48 hours OR some number in between. If FDX "formally" approached ALPA for the reduction, then FDX does NOT need to "buy up" to 68 hours.

I was surprised by DW's and FDX's interpretation of that aspect of the contract, but we do not know the "intent" during previous negotiations.

So, BLG of 58 and the +13 line build clause would have BLGs from 58 to 71 (almost where we are now) and no buy-up required.

Anyone else see this: Have you looked at your "pay summary" for next month? My line has not been "bought up" to 68 hours. Usually the add'l minutes are added in the same day the line is awarded. Thoughts??
