UPS ANC domicile question
Don't have the contract with me right now; when does the company help us with moving costs, etc? Is it only if one gets displaced? What if someone who’s off probation bids and gets ANC - would I get help with moving costs, buying/selling my house, etc.? (providing I sign up for the 2 year commitment)?
Also, do y’all know anyone who commutes to ANC from Hawaii? I’ve looked up prices on Orbitz, etc and it looks to be between 700-1200 a month. If done once or maybe twice a month I’d think it’d be doable, what do y’all think? Plz be honest even though me moving to ANC might bump you a number… ;) With the latest slowdown warning I’ll probably be on reserve in ONT for years to come and the idea of spending 12-16 days a month at Red Roof all over again makes me wanna pop a Prozac… |
Don't quote me, as I'm a n00b, but if you are displaced you get the #1 move package which is everything. If you choose to go and sign a commitment, I think you get package #2 that is the same but they don't help you with selling your house, breaking leases or buying a house up there. Move weight limit is 18.5k and two cars, or one car and a moose.

Are you going to need a roomie or crash padder? I just got displaced up there with NWA, starting in Oct. Thanks.

Pretty good summary ... FWIW ;) |
You can access the contract online (IPA website) if you don't have the paper copy with you.

I don't believe you are entitled to anything if you choose to go to ANC now that it is no longer a "new" domicile. I believe the second package you were referring to was for new hires if they signed the 3 year deal. I do agree, however, that if one gets displaced to ANC they are entitled to package 1.
Good luck with your decision. |
Yes, but the recent LETTER OF AGREEMENT NO. 08-01, ANCHORAGE DOMICILE IMPLEMENTATION highlights that 'seniority crewmembers' that volunteer for a 3 year term without moving out are entitled to moving package #2. So, FIT59, what you said (I believe) was true when we were hired back in Feb, but that should have recently changed.

Thanks for all replies folks... Darn it, almost wish they just displaced me to the Igloo City so I wouldn't have to make decisions I might regret later...

You actually want to be displaced to ANC? I'll probably end up getting bounced there on the displacement bid....you can have mine, if you want it. There are a lot worse things in life than being on reserve in ONT. Get a crashpad, an airport car, and enjoy Southern California. Think of it as a two week SoCal vacation every month. On RSVA we hardly fly at all. It's a no brainer IMHO. |
