Hello Guy and Gals,
Like most guys who set foot in this industry and set their sights high...I would love to be, and someday hope to be flying for Fedex.
I am presently a very low time FO working for what I believe is a fantastic regional airline, Mesaba
. I'm happy where I am...slowly building hours...but when i qualify to move to bigger and better I hope it would be with Fedex!
I'm looking to get as much advice on how to go about achieving this goal.
What advice do all y'all have on getting the foot in the door? What are all the avenues by which to get there?
Any advice, any suggestions or any stories on the topic is much appreciated.

Thanks for the words encouragement Propwash...stay clear of motivational speeches as a career choice!
If I would have had 2.5 kids a 2K home and a wife sitting on the couch eating bonbons, then I wouldn't have been able to make the move. I actually made more money with Fedex then after 4 years flying the commuters.
Good luck and you get what you pay for!!!!

A lot of the posts mention working for Fedex in the ramp or in some other function before trying to get a pilot job w/Fed Ex...i'm not sure such a scenario would be feasible for me right now...how much does working for the company in some other capacity help when it comes to hiring?

Best advice for any airline job and particularly FedEx is to get to the left seat. PIC, PIC, PIC. Do NOT take a job as an FO at some operation just to say you're flying "heavy iron." I know of a guy who was flying as an FO on a 747 with some small outfit and couldn't understand why no major would hire him (he had almost no PIC time).
Don't worry about getting a job at FedEx until you have plenty of hours. Working at a ramp will get you a shot at an interview as an "internal hire" but only if we are hiring pilots. And that isn't happening for the foreseeable future.
Good luck.

FlySaabXJ,
Right now FedEx is not hiring. When they do hire again I don't know what the hiring process will be like. In the past, it has relied heavily on internal recommendations from pilots.
The most important thing you can do while you are building flight time is network. Get to know as many FedEx pilots as you can. Keep up with people you fly with in your career, and find out if they end up at FedEx. These are the people that can give you recommendations later when you meet the minimums.
As far as working for FedEx in a non pilot position, this will only help you get an interview as a pilot if you meet the minimums and FedEx is currently hiring pilots. Those threads I listed have lots of info about how this works.
So, network and build time. Get at least 1000 PIC turbine time. Apply as soon as you meet the mins. Call everyone you know who works for FedEx. They will help you out in getting an interview.
Good luck.
