I think we should invade Mexico, Central, and South America.
Your comment leaves me speechless, so I will borrow the following quote from Daniel J. Boorstin:

"The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance -- it is the illusion of knowledge."

I think it was Centurion, the same company Kalitta was operating for into BOG, that had a DC10 go off the end of the runway and was totaled, and the Colombian officials had the crew under house arrest of some sort (passports held I believe) until an investigation was under way, that incident did not result in a loss of life, now you have dead Colombians, it might get ugly!

A serious question and not really related to this accident but all accidents in a foreign country - since more and more countries seem to prosecute pilots involved in accidents nowadays would you head for the US embassy instead of the hotel (as soon as you're out of hospital) in a similar situation?

My prayers are with the crew and their families and also the injured and/or killed people on the ground.

Two American cargo flights crash in Columbia within 24 hours. Given the events (hostage release - FARC setbacks over the last months) is it at all possible that terrorism could have played a part? One report I heard about the USA Jet deal was "engine problems", and the Kalitta plane was said to report an engine fire after take-off. Is there any possibility of some AA fire?
The conspiracy is the VP quoted on CNN. He was the safety officer at good ol' CAT when I was an F/O. I'm guessing Kallita operates under 121 subpart Q like most bottom feeders, basically no rules internationally, and of course, minimal mx. I have personally been ordered to fly a Kingston turn from MIA by this guy after already flying 8+ domestically. Ended up being over 13 with a tail end ferry MIA - ATL. All of it "legal" and scary.

The only saving grace to non-flag nite cargo is that there are relatively few of them. Thoughts and prayers to the families of all involved.

AV8OR WANNABE,

I would probably sneak out of the hospital / hotel in the middle of the night, when the police officer stationed outside my hospital/hotel room was sleeping, and take up refuge in the US Embassy ASAP!
