Letter of recommendation submitted by a UPS employee on the company website. It's a seven page long document where the UPS employee answers multiple questions about the prospective employee in essay format.

The company made the rec form a pain in the ass so that an employee wouldn't be submitting one for every buddy in his contact list. Pretty smart move actually....it eliminates all frivolous computer generated form letter type LORs stating how great the guy is, and what a great fit he would be for UPS.

Or LOR = Letter of Reprimand. At least thats what I heard!

The apps with 5 points have our minimum flight qualifications, LORs, a college degree, PIC time and jet experience. Those with all five points equal about 400+. The computer will then randomly select applicants for us to interview." So I asked if it helps to have more LORs and he said nope. One LOR equals one point and that's all you can get in that category. Hope this helps.

Sounds suspiciously enough like UAL in their heyday, I know many UPS guys and gals (all good), hope this doesn't do anything to dilute the "gene pool".

So, I think it was mentioned earlier on this thread, but the Dulles AirInc job fair shows UPS attending (Sharnika Chandler).
However, the application window is still closed correct?
Just trying to understand why UPS will go to the job fair and not open up the application...
Thanks.

Yes, still closed. (800-241-2357) Don't know the answer to the other question, after 13 years, I haven't worked here long enough to fully understand my employer.

I believe Sharnika took Phil D's position (Buz has retired) and basically she's going there 'just in case' they get a go-ahead on hiring from Atlanta. I'd been to a job fair before where UPS wasn’t hiring, at least not at the time of the job fair but they started hiring just a few months later. It sounds like a repeat of that; she’s basically trying to stay ahead of the game.

Also, remember it’s still mainly a computer program that select who will get the call (based on a point system). I’d say the job fair helps more with the actual interview than with getting an interview.

In other words if you think you’d rank pretty high in the application database (once it opens) I’d say a job fair would be a great way of saying hi to the person who’ll probably interview you further down the road. When I interviewed all three people had met me at different job fairs (yeah, I’m almost embarrassed to admit how many of these I’d attended… ;)). I definitely think it helped to break the ice.
