Quote: The WSJ is one of the few credible large newspapers left in America. I suggest a detailed perusal of DHL's financial statement if you want to know the exact nature of their claims to losses in the US market-these figures are considered valid by both the US and German governments and are audited by an independent firm. The question of accounting irregularities has never been raised by either country.

The WSJ article also outlines the crux of DHL's legal defense: they are changing vendors for a service, not merging. This is the question that will be addressed by any hearings. I am sure an army of Lawyers has been mulling over this exact question for quite some time and already know the answer.

Both groups of politicos have called the other liars and this is to be expected.

I guess we'll find out when the hearings start.

So, Ohio, a US state, is going into business with Germany to compete against UPS and FedEx - both US companies??? What the hell kind of arrangement is that?

I wouldn't be too thrilled about paying taxes to Ohio to subsidize a German company if I lived in Ohio!

I think the Ohio Lieutenant Gov. is smoking some good crack to offer that deal!

According to DHL/DP no such proposal has been made: Deutsche Post AG spokesman Silje Skogstad said, "We are not aware of such a proposal."

Unfortunately for ABX and Astar guys, the hearings will reveal just how poorly those two contractors were managed. If anything, it will only solidify the need to switch contractors in order to preserves tens of thousands of US jobs.

You guys really should be focusing your efforts on getting new flying jobs, rather than trying to scuddle this deal. JMHO.

The classic ploy of looking busy during an election year. No substance, but plenty of promises.
hvydriver, please don't mistake my attempt to bring a little realism to the discussion as animosity. I bear no ill will towards ABX/Astar, but when I see a train coming down the track, I step out of the way and I try to avoid placing a large amount of hope on top of a slim and brittle reed. Best of luck to all of you.

I just Hope I have some Change left in my pocket come next year.

Hey, that's a great idea! Know where there are any? No? I didn't think so.

I sure don't blame the DHL guys for trying (especially in this job environment), but I think this will be all but forgotten after the election. Ohio is a swing state and both guys will make promises, but in the end, it will be next to impossible to stop.. Just my opinion... Good luck guys I hope I am wrong....

Bring it on. ABX, and Airborne Express has been profitable for longer than you’ve been flying airplanes. Look for yourself. This link goes as far as 1996, but the company has been profitable going back 50 years

Well, sounds like you think you deserve the freight. You can have it. DPWN is a train wreck, and it’s all yours. Those of us at ABX lucky enough to survive are looking forward to life without DHL. You don’t understand yet, but it’s likely you will in time.

Open Skies and ACMI. It’s a new world out there, and it’s going to effect everybody.

Meanwhile, gonna have some fun digging around the underbelly of DPWN.

This was never about whether ABX was turning a profit. Past performance does not imply future gains. Even if the investigation drags on for a while, do you actually think it is going to help your position? In the end you will find that big government is not your friend and that large corporations are not your enemy.

The Enron investigation was all about the accounting, this is not, it is about the legal parameters involved in the antitrust law.
