Much easier than trying to critique the past through foresight! Sorry, I had the shot and I took it.

It will be 236 an hour this Jan.

And just think, you guys get paid 24 times a year while UPS gets paid 26 times. (900 vs. 975)

Good Luck-

158 x 1.45=229 an hour.

to Commando and RVR....

Using UAL top Captain pay $189 versus UPS $230. Isn't that the pay for a 747 Captain? That is 22%. Same with top F/O pay $129 vs $159. That is 23%. Besides, I actually like to fly. 99 hours your first year is fine if you don't like your job. I am on reserve. I have flown 2 one day trips this month and I am getting the itch. :) We will see what happens next. Remember this pay disparity is about 6 years old. Things were quite different before then. I imagine they will be quite different 6 years from now.

Well, since I'm being chastised for being a "young guy", I will attempt to say this in my best 6 year-old voice:

"But he started it!!!!!!" ;)

OK, in all seriousness here. He dished it out, I gave him some back. I did once want to be a UAL pilot, but obviously I'm not the right caliber. In my post, you will see that I am not rejoicing in their misfortune. I've been there many times as well. I'm sorry that I upset you, but I guess I need to grow some more hair on my chest, being the typical young guy and all.

jsled,

I think they have you on the pay thing. You have a handful of 747s and 777s but all of UPS Captains are making the same pay. The same could be said of FO pay. But as we know, things change, and they may change again....

82 is the number of 777+747's. More than a handful, but I see your point. The same pay for all Capt / FO is an interesting concept. I am sure the company enjoys the decreased training costs. And I am sure a 727/757 guy likes making WB pay. I am happy that somebody still makes the big bucks. Gives us something to shoot for. I would be making bigger money had I stayed in freight, but alas, I left in 1997 for "The Lottery" at UAL. :( Oh well.

Totally agree! Who needs bad management when we treat each other like this. Let this thread go, and you know who I am talking about!

Overall, I thought it was a fairly genteel discussion about a situation that will effect many of us now and in the future.

Hey, it was that or the thread on the price of Tommy Bahama shirts in China.:D

Wasn't disputing that, but the best way to get rid of the Ned's is to not have 85 responses to one of his posts... Civil or not...

Jsled,
I used to be a UAL julio (Apr 97 hire). Left there July 07 for Big Brown. We will see how things work out. Good luck over there!
