FDX: Fred vs. Teamsters
#12
DL,
By the time the teamsters could organize here I'd long since be back on the line. I'll be just another guy waiting for the bus at the AOC in a couple years... Your comments were a good caution, but right now the same teamsters are working hard to strip off every ALPA carrier they can and further weaken our National strength. We need to work together on the issues that affect us all, but it sure seems like to this union newbie they are promising the moon and stars to any carriers that are disgruntled in order to build their own union up. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but it is irritating to me to have someone shake my hand for unity while they silently motion for others to leave our side whenever they can.
If others at FDX unionize, of course we'll support them. We'll have to or it just won't work for any of us. That aside, I think one of the greatest problems in American business is the "CEO passing through" type leadership vice the leaders who take ownership. (Fred Smith, Jack Welch, Steven Jobs, Bill Gates (ret), etc) I'll dance with who brung me...thanks...

Only in America. A guy comes along and builds an incredibly successful company only to have a bunch of leeches try to have him thrown out because he has treated his employeees well enough to prevent them from turning to the Union for help....that they don't need, or want to pay through the nose for. And the Unions wonder why they are destined for the same tarpit as the dinosaurs??!!

I understand Albie, the above was all I was trying to say and you got it. I was never trying to argue about the merits of what the Teamsters want or FS's leadership, just how it has to be played by our own union at times for our interest. I know you probably will be back on the line by the time any of this occurs which is why I said it doesn't really matter right now. I just want us to be as smart/savvy as a group when it comes to union stuff as possible, which is why I why made the comment as it may be relevant in the future.

Lot of good people at both ALPA and the Teamsters. Plenty of good folks who are also against a union at all. My beef isnt' with the drivers unionizing or not...its their call.
I'm just a little tweaked at the whole Atlas deal. Don't read more into my frustration than is there...
