I'm listed number 7 on the airbus for an early AM flight. Should I be concerned? Are there two cockpit jumpseats? Do any captains have problems letting jumpseaters ride in the cockpit? I called almost as soon as I could and there were already 7 people on the list, usually the route is empty.

I commute from a city that is sometimes "full" in the back with jumpseaters. I just email the Capt. and ask for his approval to ride "up front." I've never had anybody say no and I've only heard of a few stories where capt's have a problem with it.
Emailing the Capt. will also get you head of the line cockpit privileges. I don't believe in the FedEx tradition of bringing cookies but I usually will if I'm seated in the cockpit.

If you are staging and have a confirmed reservation vs a standby one, then I wouldn't be concerned. Might lose the pay, but, at least don't have to worry about talking with the boss.
If it is a 70 hr trip, then I'd be more concerned. Depending on which bus you get, the number of seats might/might not be enough for the 7 reservations.
A300 generally has 8 available (including the 2 in the cockpit), but the A310 only has 6.
And, I just operated an A300 that had 2 J/S MEL'd....so, as #7, could be rolling the dice.
Good luck,
and don't forget to include J/S admin in the email requesting Capt's permission

When you called J/S admin, did they give you a confirmed reservation? As I understand FedEx's offline booking process, every offline pilot is assigned a seat in the cockpit and it is Capt's discretion to have them sit in the back.
So, if the j/s folks told you that you have a ticket to ride, should be good to go. If you have a flight number or city+local date, sure there somebody will take a look at the plane type for ya.
