When you say you commute do you mean jumpseating on other airlines or on your own airline?

I've been jumpseating for the last 12 years and cannot imagine an overhead bin which would store the larger roller bag?

I have the standard 22 inch Travelpro (the ‘smallest’ bag the company offers) and sometimes it barely gets squeezed in, for example AA MD80s are very tight for that roller bag.

By the way I hit the gym regularly and use the hotels’ wash machines and/or their laundry services.

Wearing the same jacket as other guys do just doesn’t bother me that much; my wife on the other hand… God-forbid another lady has something that even remotely looks like her outfit – she immediately has to change into something else… ;)

So maybe you’re just in touch with your feminine side? (I’m just kiddin’ dude) :D

Over 12 yrs for me too, and I find that gate checking works fine when jumpseating! Also, you can't get ANY bags in the overhead on an RJ. Of course, it ends up in baggage claim now on most/all non RJs (since I went from commuting out of DEN to RDU, I'm only on RJs now!), which I have no real problem with.

I've always brought a packable "shell" and or a packable rain jacket (many FOs have thanked me when I loaned it to them on rainy walk arounds) even when taking my leather jacket. Also, all of my bags are expandable Travelpros, so when I leave MEM in the winter for ANC or Europe, then end up in SIN or DXB, the leather jacket easily goes into the suitcase rather that having to be worn!

If I pass through someplace where I can get laundry done (SFS mid trip was perfect), I take a smaller bag!

There's no standard to packing, its all technique!;)

You don't like looking like the guys you fly with? I got to ask you, jarhead...What does your lanyard say on it? And, your haircut?

I have gate checked my bag in the past but SWA for example which I normally ride on only allows gate checked bags if you're a SWA employee (I think AA is the same way). They changed those rules a while back and even though I’ve been able to gate check it a few times since the rules were changed I try to keep it simple and bring the smaller bag instead.

As far as RJs – I actually prefer to ride on them if I have larger than normal suitcase because the bag goes underneath the airplane by default and they’ll bring it back to the front of the airplane when deplaning.

Either way, like you said it’s all about technique and whatever works for you.

I won't do it either, unless I can be 100% sure each of them voted NO on the FDA LOAs and is under 60 (or over 60 but does not have his 25 years in).

And even then, it still looks pretty gay.
