Just to add another scheduling enhancement discussion to this thread.
I talked to FE (before he was asked to resign) and offered an idea for a VIPS enhancement. Contingency Trip Drop would simply mean that when you submit a Trip Drop, it immediately gets "advertised" in VIPS Open Time if the system responds to you with "unable - insufficient reserve coverage". This allows for the all the pilot population to immediately see that it is available for pickup (trading for it would probably be restricted because of insufficient reserves in the original scenario) instead of depending upon 3rd party advertising of your trips. From the person who is perusing Open Time, it looks like any other Open Time trip (except it is coded for makeup only, not tradable). The pilot trying to drop it is responsible for flying the trip up until some predetermined time before the trip shows if no one picks it up. With the way 99% of Open Time gets scarfed up, this would be a surefire way to get rid of a trip you don't want to/can't fly. This potentially would increase the pilot's ability to modify schedules and, at the same time, reduce the amount of sick calls for the company. A win - win situation. I have discussed this idea with O, and he mentioned that it sounded like a good idea, but would be considered an improvement to the CBA that would have to come under Section 6 negotiations. My argument is that, just like adding other features to VIPS (Visa, currency notifications, etc.), this is really just an advertising process using VIPS Open Time instead of a 3rd party website. What do you think? |
new FCIF out today from mgt... dont' try to use the bots to track open time and send it to your cell phone...

Doesn't the CBA (this one and previous) say that the company was supposed to provide a program to advertise trip trading? We've never callled them on this - it's a pretty easy thing - Jet Blue has a company run program that will txt message you when trips show up. Why is this such a big deal for us?
This guy, the whiner, FH, has no problem bidding copious amounts of carry over and working to his heart's content. That's the first thing we should be changing in any contract - not the availability of technology. Whatever rules the company puts in, technology will easily overcome it and beat it - you certainly can't beat it but for some reason they can't figure that out. |
There are "technically" still trip trading bulletin boards on the mainframe (green screen); but, there they have been dormant for a long, long time because access access to the mainframe is a mystery to most pilots. Note: there are NO mainframe boards for LAX or HKG pilots.
For some reason, this function failed to make the migration to the website environment. But with so many other things on the NC's plate how can we expect action in this small QOL area?? Guess they all figure that the 3rd party website fulfills the contract requirement. |

Imagine it--Instead of our MBO managers getting together and devising ways to restrict us for increased profit without CAPEX, they might actually choose to do something helpful or positive. |
