Anyone commute to ANC from LAX?

What are the commuting options (year round) for guys based in ANC who live in LA?

Shared experiences / suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

If you are senior to me, you have NO options.

Otherwise, you can go on NWA daily in each direction.

WM :D

I'll be about 78% in ANC, so I doubt I'm senior to anyone.

Hoping I can hold reserve there, drop some days every month, and take off to LA. No idea though what it will actually be like 6 months from now when I finish space shuttle, I mean md-11, training.

Thanks for the NW tip, going to look at their time tables now. Any idea if any cargo carriers make that run? I doubt it, but it's nice to be able to have a "sure thing" seat.

Very difficult commute. Spent 9 hours in Seattle last week trying to catch that 2nd leg.

NWA is obviously not predominately a cargo carrier, but that flight between LAX and ANC is only cargo 74s. NW has 4 first class seats on the upper deck plus the jump in the cockpit. There are usually a couple of jumpseaters on that route, but I have yet to see a guy get turned away due to a lack of a seat. Nothing is a sure thing, but as far as jumpseating goes it's as close as it gets. That is until the base closes.:(

UPS goes ONT to ANC. I'm not sure of how many and how often, but it's a nice ride.

UPS1856 11-05-2008 04:18 AM

UPS0062 11/06/08 ONT ANC 0955 1505 M1F

GMT time daily, (weekdays). Pretty full ride heading that way due to all the ONT crews displaced to ANC.

You wont be able to drop:"insufficient reserves"

Be Careful on relying on the NWA(Delta) cargo flt to/from LAX. Rumor has it their freight ops may go the way of the Dodo.
