Once again, nice work Ohio and ALPA. Looks like you screwed many more thousands.

It's a shame because it seems that the DHL/UPS deal would have allowed DHL to be a viable entity, and it would have preserved many jobs, including the bottom UPS pilots.

Ned,
What do you think is happening to all the DHL freight now? Do you think they are just packing it all up and taking it with them back to Germany? The freight is still being moved by the 2 remaining players, brown and purple. So don't pin the blame on the pilots and Ohio, dhl earned that right all to themselves.

I hear Wal-Mart is hiring.

I have been through this before, more then once. I was prepared and every time I was furloughed or lost a job I ended up with a better one and still kept or increased my quality of life.

I am counting on other pilots to do NOTHING. This is how I get ahead...

If you wait for a letter before you come up with plan B you are screwed....

I beg all the other pilots on the bottom of your lists to do nothing and wait for a letter like JUSTUNDERPAR suggests. My mortgage company depends on it.......

No, I don't have a letter yet, but starting to think more and more I will be getting one in the spring of 2009.

If I got a furlough letter what "WOULD" I do or "COULD" I do. I "COULD" do "NOTHING" about a furlough letter as you stated. I "WOULD" have to have faith that the IPA will fight for our jobs.

What "WOULD" I do? I would live off my millions of dollars earned as a rock star. This flying gig is just a hobby of mine of course.:D

Walmart is a capitalist, anti union, anti american corporation. I don't shop there and I would never work there. The Southpark episode about it says it all for me. ;)

P.S. Don't plan on an early retirements to stop a furlough. The over 60 crowd I fly with in ANC new mantra is 30% of their retirement has disappeared so they have to make that up. If we didn't have these 125 over 60 guys flying in the front seat again I wouldn't be as concerned with a furlough right now. There right to come back negates the hiring of 2007 in my opinion.

That faith will get you nothing but furloughed....

Pilot unions exist for Captains and F/O's who could hold a captains bid...case closed !!!!!!!

Its just business.........

I know I was just responding to JustUnderPars post about what would I do. I hate to be a half empty glass, but my experience has shown me to have faith in Pilots and our respective unions when it comes to furloughs it is all we have.

What bothers me at UPS is no one seems to think it can happen here. There response is always it won't happen and if we do we will ban open time and that will solve it. They always seem to sight the 2 week ban when it worked at UPS ONCE.

This is the third (at least) thread either directly or indirectly talking about pilot layoffs at UPS.

With all of the FDX threads, why aren't the FDX guys talking about pilot cutbacks?

Because our union leadership has us so mad, we can't see what's going on around us!

What about the OT ban when the 100 furlough notices went out post 9/11? The 100 furloughs were cancelled.

Historically, Fred has always expanded or gotten all the pieces into place for expansion while everyone else is retracting. Tends to be cheaper that way. That being said, in today's environment who knows.
