Default FDX Paris pilot base

FDX Brothers/Sisters:

I was recently asked if you have a Paris base. I mentioned that I thought you did but wasn't sure. Could someone confirm this for me, and if so, how many pilots are based there? I thought FDX was going to open a new hub in CGN but wasn't sure if that meant opening a pilot domicile in CGN as well. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

JB, the company was going to open a Paris and a Hong Kong domicile but decided to shelf the Paris part. We have Memphis, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Anchorage as pilot bases. Subic Bay, Philippines is closing as a pilot base very shortly, if not already. A sort facility for "eastern Europe" is scheduled to open in Koln in 2012, I think? Hope this answers your questions.
Cheers,

No domicile in Europe. We have a large sort facility in CDG, and even had a bid for a domicile, but they changed their minds and canceled the plans. Currently our intra-europe flying is done by deadheading crews to europe and flying 1 to 2 week pairings throughout europe, and then deadheading back to the states. This flying is done utilizing MEM based Airbus pilots.

JB,

The company published a 757 bid for Paris and subsequently canceled it (rumor mill says after some folks actually sold their homes in the US). The cancellation appears to center around the slower delivery of 757's than originally planned.

At this years recurrent training, a member of management has shown up (can you say Iraqi Minister of Information ) to educate us line pilots into management thinking (is that an oxymoron?). The System Chief Pilot showed up at my recurrent training several months back and suggested that the Paris domicile idea is back on the agenda again, this time as an A300 Domicile? He also said that he predicted that in addition to the A300 domicile in Hong Kong that there would also be an MD-10 domiicile in Hong Kong.

Not sure why you're asking, but that seems to be the latest poop ... all the above may be overcome by events if the company comes through on recent furlough threats (many of us are VERY skeptical!).

Regards,

Mark

Mark,

No real reason. I was just asked by someone and I told them that I thought you guys were coming to Cologne. Just trying to keep it all straight. Thanks again for the info.

The Cyclone's history. Shut down over a year ago. Rumor has it that there's a new place that has taken its place, but I don't know where.
