Gotta love it. 25.L.11 says moving R days will not be unreasonably denied....and you can drop R days as long as the forecast permits (25.L.2.b "the Reserve Forecast modeling system" to be precise)

But, no real definition out there and the company often seems to think it's unreasonable that you would even think of moving an R day.....let alone dropping one.

Even though there might be no open trips and MaxOpen is a huge number.

May I suggest forwarding these and other VIPS "DISAPPROVED because Insuffecient Reserves" messages to the PSIT and the MEC Contract Admin folks? Could be good evidince to support the 4a2b grievance.

Default Random thoughts?

I've been on Reserve most of the last 3 years. I've had reasonable luck moving/dropping R days (although it seems to be cyclical)?

There are only 6 MD Capt's on RB (B period reserve) on the 20th, never seen a number that low? If we were really overmanned, would there be LOTS of folks on Reserve? There is ZERO open time!

I've been told by scheduling that there are very few default reasons in VIPS to deny a trade/drop and they frequently just have to pick a random one (doesn't have to make sense?) in order to deny your request. Example ... I put in a trip trade 3 seconds after open time was released, denied for earlier time stamp? I called and asked W-T-F-O? How is that possible?

Default Send it To The Union

The union needs data to fight this. WE along with the UNION have been very lazy in regards to this scenario. If we all compile this data by date and by crew notification and send it over, we can get their attention (Contract admin). If we just call there is nothing they can do. CRS will tell you that a 5+ year old software program is to blame. The union accepts this as being OK. 5 years ago we were undermanned so the software worked then. Not any more.

Print out the denials, keep trying to drop and trade, and by all means send them to Contract enforcement. They just cant keep saying "there is nothing we can do." It just takes data and someone willing to carry the ball on this one. If the company keeps hiding the open time but keeps denying us R day drops and trip trades, they cant have it both ways. IMHO.

If we're so overmanned, why is management giving guys a hard time for calling in sick?

Other than individual grievance issue involving so called sick call abuse, why do you say that guys are being given a hard time? Just curious as to what makes you make that statement.

One is example is managments unilateral decision to begin issuing "irregularity reports" to a pilot that calls in sick within 4 hours of a trip. To my knowledge, this policy began only a couple of years ago.

Um, there was a solid 2 seconds which someone else put in for the same trip. I would think that was obvious as to how it was possible. Happens alot.

Better get your timing down a little better when you hit submit.
