FDX-Is something coming?

"O"'s latest AF fcif has got me thinking something is imminent. Any intel on here to be shared?

Prob just trying to get someone else (the AF) to help solve their manning problem....

gderek 02-03-2009 12:56 PM

The email likely just made it's way to him. It showed up last week at our reserve squadron and the DO sent it out to everyone.

990Convair 02-03-2009 02:03 PM

I thought it might be a premonition of the big "F". A little while back he put something out about looking into and advocating personal leaves of absence, the he was looking into flying on the side limitations being lifted, now this.

Guess I am buying into the hype...oh well.:p

Gunter 02-03-2009 02:19 PM

Personal leaves of absence still have the 90 days at a time restriction. Kinda easy to advocate it when it's spelled out right there in the CBA. Good job sticking up for the pilots "O".

I don't know what he meant by "looking into it". Maybe it was like looking into accepted fares and not canceling grnd transpo when you deviated. Both of those went nowhere.....

On the bright side - "O"'s e-mails are getting better!

Gunter 02-03-2009 02:22 PM

I guess we aren't really overmanned with the Personal leaves still restricted to 90 days per CBA. Kinda hard to go that route and plan a long absence....

Holy mixed message from management Batman!

magicrat 02-03-2009 03:16 PM

The Air Force recently (last week) put the "limited recall to Active Duty" program into effect. They are actually taking and processing applications now.

A few months back the Air Force asked a bunch of chief pilots to publicize the original proposal....apparently the Air Force wanted to put out a feeler and see how much interest there may be at a few different airlines. Hence the recall FCIF a few months ago.

The AF must have contacted the chief pilots once again to let them know they decided to go through with the recall program.

Not sure how many takers so far.

MrSuupafly 02-03-2009 03:20 PM

Wow, Dirk the Daring. Now that's Old School...

MalteseX 02-03-2009 05:57 PM

It's a BIG AF push---

I don't think so. This is much more an AF active duty undermanning problem with pilots in rated staff positions, deployments in rated staff positions, and postions in UAVs and new Intel aircraft.

There is a big effort in the AF to try to keep rated staff positions filled. So this is there effort to go after retired active duty pilots and retired reserve pilots to bring them on active duty. They have asked all employers of former and retired pilots to publicize this.

Heck a buddy of mine working as a senior engineer at Boeing (and a retired AF pilot) just got the message from his HR folks at Boeing.

This is an AF effort---not something just at FedEx. The AF is trying to get the word out to as many retirees as possible.

990Convair 02-03-2009 06:46 PM

Thanks Maltese.

Jetjok 02-04-2009 03:21 AM

Heck,

And here I thought that FS not only ran FedEx, but also the AF. My opinion of him just went down a notch.

I want to post an apology for bad gouge - I had said a few weeks ago that the new China hub was in major trouble. The guy who told me this is well-connected, but evidently wrong.

Let's all pray we get a bump from the increase in business over there.....

Did you listen to BOYCAPTAIN again?

Laughing_Jakal 02-05-2009 08:50 AM

Prediction

Based on my own intuition, reading chicken bones, and doing some voodoo stuff like Mickey Rourke and Lisa Bonet in AngelHeart......

I predict not a darn thing happening period, until July......no excess....no furlough.....no vacancy bid....no nothing. Right now any changes can not happen without costing money, and 4.A.2.B has shown this is about cost control. Keeping pairings close to the chest and assigning to reserves keeps cost down.....drives reserve utilization up thereby "hiding" a manning problem from the view of those who aren't "current" on the workings of AOD.

After the fiscal year, there will be some move I'm sure, depending on what color the big picture is painted. Management is....like us, waiting for the other shoe to drop and will not make a decision for fear of being wrong...........therefore, we will see status quo.

After July, all bets are off.....but I predict small Excess, no furlough, 757 vacancy.

The good part about me being wrong is that we'll know what happens sooner. And like BoyCaptain.....my sources are my own imagination. ;-)

BOYCAPTAIN 02-05-2009 09:10 AM

oops...i almost wasted my time again!

Jetjok 02-05-2009 11:25 AM

There you go, only thinking about yourself again. What about every one elses time?:D

;-)

After reading your post, then rocking the magic "Crew-Bus" back and forth after asking it "will there be an excess bid soon"......the magic "Crew-Bus" said.......

Yes, excess bid will be posted soon........

I then said "soon, like tomorrow soon or next month soon?"

The magic "Crew-Bus" then said "after tomorrow but before next month".....

I wonder how accurate the magic "Crew Bus" is?;-(

fedupbusdriver 02-05-2009 12:23 PM

Hey, quit rocking the crew bus.

I wonder if BC is being used as a tool by his "friends" in management? Had a pretty highplaced lurker tell me he thinks that's the case. Spreading of rumors, bad news, that kind of thing. He doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed to me, so it wouldn't come as a surprise.

BOYCAPTAIN 02-05-2009 05:08 PM

.....................just 4 u

skypine27 02-05-2009 05:41 PM

Don't forget: BC has been fortunate to work at just 1 airline, so he's got a wide range of experience from, ohh wait, never mind.
