With 12/56 guys being excessed, is business out of ANC that far off? How many Nuggets in ANC? Could it be about 56?

I might be totally out to lunch, but I believe the most senior "Nugget" in ANC, out of 239 ANC FO's in the March 2009 bidpack, is approx. 63 pilots from the bottom (in ANC) - with 5 of those pilots being designated as "pay only" status for March.

So......yes......the number 56 is extremely close to ALL the "Nuggets"

(I think?)

There are a few more that are not included in the bidpack. Already on a LOA of one type or another. I think the actual number is 69 or 70.

Not the point. This has been the policy for a long time now. If you don't like it don't bid ANC because you WILL be coming up a full day before your trip leaves or JP will be all over you like a cheap suit. Just the way it is...

There's a difference between policy and the contract/FARs.

The bottom line question is whether I can safely and legally operate the trip. If I was domiciled in ANC, I would certainly listen to JPs opinion, but, bottom line, the only person that can determine whether I should be flying or not is me.

And, I don't think showing up a full day solves all problems. Am I better rested sleeping in my own bed or in a crash pad? When I get to ANC bummed about showing up a day early do I push it up and have a few beers?
Showing up early do I get the extra rest JP wants, or is it a toss and turn situation wishing I had taken a later flight.

It is all situationally dependent. And, I've got no problems answering questions. If I think I'm fit for duty and JP disagrees and removes me w/pay, well, that's his prerogative. Remove me without pay without cause, well, that's a whole different situation.

If any of the CPs removed folks because they were fatigued, well, wouldn't be enough reserve pilots to fill the schedule on any given night in Memphis. Let alone an operational emergency when you wander about the hub/sit in an airplane wondering when you're going to be loaded and hit the road.

What happens in MEM is different than what happens in ANC, just a statement of fact. Being the nail that continually sticks up is going to be problematic for you. Not saying I sense a recalcitrant attitude, and it may just be you're not aware of the flow of acft into and out of ANC.

The inbound acft show up at 7 - 8 AM from the lower 48. The outbound departure heading west, start with show times about 9 or so... alert's about 7:30 or so... ballpark times. So showing up at 7 for a 9 show isn't going to work out so well.

The afternoon launches are about 2pm heading back to the lower 48. This may be more workable depending on the size of your huevos, I personally hate missing trips and there is no jumpseat protection into ANC. The flights into ANC are sometimes sporatic at best. There are few, if any, arriving around midnight that are usable for jumpseating in... so we all come in the day before. It's just the way you have to do it... Not sure of where you'd be traveling in from, west coast is more workable than east coast.

Not being argumentative here (for a change). JP's not one to stab you in the back... you're gonna see if coming and gooning this will get you rightly stabbed. The folks take great care of us up there and we try to do our part to keep it a great invironment.

Maybe I've been goofing it for the last 2 years wasting a bunch of day's on the front end of my trips, but I haven't been into JP's for a carpet dance!

I'm not posting this to argue the merits of where you get the most rest, I personally don't care, I just hope this helps those that will be replacing me here in ANC.

What say you other ANC-er's.

Huh? Why would an excessed MEM pilot not be eligible for a move to ANC in any of these bids? Am I missing some thing?

Watch it get back filled by a Vacancy bid!

This guy Kronan's post has me so incredulous that I actually had to sign up and go through the whole bs just to tell him to stay home! He obviously has no idea how it works in AK. You bid ANC and it is a whole new way of life. JP is a good man, if you are honest with him, he will give you the benefit of the doubt, within reason. Trying to fly in and catch your trip in a few hours just doesn't work. You will need to come in a day early. This ain't Memphis. Consider your bid carefully.
