Mark my words-- UPS is about to have some of the best years in the 108 year history of this company!!
-Competition is gone -oil is down -they must be confident if they are buying back billions in their own stock -buying airplanes -fed is pumping money into the economy I'll stand by my point, if we casually allow guys to be tossed to the street for years, this organization is done for! The government came out and said they expected unemployment to PEAK at the 7.5-8.5 range. WE ARE ALREADY THERE and still haven't hit the bottom. Unemployment is going to go over 10% easily and very soon too. That means less money spent on packages because nobody is buying anything and more foreclosures are coming as well. The DOW is at 6,600, down from 11,400 less than 6 months ago. It will be below 5,000 in less than 3 MONTHS. Don't think so? Lets revisit this thread in a couple months. What makes FDX and UPS immune to the economic meltdown we are in....NOTHING. |

I don't believe that we will be out out for five years! I bet somewhere between 1.5 to two! Here are the reasons why I believe that.
1. On 1 Sep 09 We will have 75 folks on property that will be over 65! 2. On 1 Sep 11 we will have another 58 folks that will be over 65! If the DC-8 is retired as the company plans that means 136 people that will be forced out with no place for them to go! (In case your wondering the retirements then speed up to 56, 57, 56 the following three years) These numbers are without any other attrition, i.e. early outs, deaths, etc 3. Since June 06 and Nov 07 the company hired over three hundred folks! Now to possibly lay off those same folks! I point this out because in three years the economy went from off the charts to the toilet, point here being things change very rapidly and no one saw this coming, so for someone to say how long its going to take for this mess to turn around is pure conjecture, nothing more! Lets quit fighting amongst ourselves and put things in perspective. Although, I will be devastated if I am let go, I know that I will find a means to an end! I will survive and you will too! Lets quit with all this nonsense and wait and see how things fall out. |
