Default FDX-Vacation bidding question

I have 10 days of vacation in the middle of May and am wondering if I lose a trip to carry in conflict, can I request/be awarded a makeup trip that goes over the footprint of that vacation.

You may not have a trip touch the footprint of a vacation. Good luck next month...

Just a thought here but ... if you bid reserve, your 10 days vacations (60 hrs) will turn into credit for 15 R days (at 4.0 hrs/day) and you could take the entire month off if you wanted to ... or bid almost any other 60 hr line for that matter?

Mark,
I was just trying to look into all my options. I have a bunch of lines that I'm bidding that will get me the whole month off. It's been so long since I bid reserve for any reason, I never even thought about that, though. I appreciate the suggestion.

Don't bid Reserve. With the new reduced RLG's it's easier to just bid any VTO. You'll get the whole month off. (Been there, done that.) Of course, you'll only get paid 60 hrs. The Vacation strategy has changed now that BLG/RLG's are so low. Of course, this is just my opinion.

I too would go with vto. You will get the ten days at 6hrs a day. BLG will be 60. Unless you can bid a line to get more pay, I would go for the secondary line.

Good luck

Haywood.

Dumb Q maybe, but how do you make sure that they dont build you a line that works you on your non vacation days?

With a secondary line, first they take the credit hrs toward your blg. If you bid say 15 days of vacation, your blg is automatically 90hrs for the month. Same applies for lesser hours, so if you have 7 days, 42hrs. As for the build, you have to put in your request depending on how many hours you have left over. I had 7 days in March, I got one 16hr trip and they bought me up the rest of the way. I asked for the trip I got, and I figured I would get more than what I did, but they bought it up. If not, you can always put it in your request that you want certain days off(my limited experience, I have gotten what I asked for).

Not sure what you mean by "bought it up". As far as I know, they haven't bought up lines since they inacted 4a2bcyabadabadoo. Do you mean they paid you for the 42 hours of vacation time?

Per the CBA, on a VTO line, you get the credit hours for your vacation @ 6 CH * # Vac days. ie. 10 days vacation = 60 CH. If, and a big if, they are building lines more than your vacation hour credit, they go by what you request, but it can not be during your scheduled vacation time or 48 hour buffer on either side if you so request.

Lately, you'll get anywhere close to 56 - 60 hours total. Normally, they'll build you up to the RLG number.

So to answer your question, it depends on how much vacation time you have. If you only have 7 days, you'll probably get some extra trip(s).
