MEM HTL STBYS at HOME ???

I understand these trips are being offered up where you can sit them at HOME, but they are calling this a HOTEL STANDBY (?)
So, do they have to provide us transportation from HOME and/or the HOTEL, just as transportation is provided at the other cities where HTL STBY is being done ? What if you miss the callout from your house due to problem with phone lines, etc. ? Where does that put us ? Should we be accepting HTL STBY trips at HOME or should we do this at the designated Hotels ? It looks like an attempt to save $$$ and put more of the onus on the crewmembers, to make a trip happen ................... THOUGHTS, COMMENTS ???

Bigger fish to fry, IMHO. If I live in domicile, can sit at home instead of a hotel all day and save a little $$ for the bottom line-how does that hurt? Maybe that's just me...

Easy way to increase reserve utilization!

"Get me a hotel room or release me" should be the only response. I've been released twice. Do NOT let the company get away with this!

I don't think that sitting hotel standby at home, in Memphis, has anything at all to do with saving the company money. First of all, the company buys those rooms, regardless of whether someone uses them or not, and secondly I'd assume that if you elect to sit standby at home, then you are responsible for your transportation, either to the AOC or at a minimum, to the standby hotel, so that the company's transportation can pick you up. So someone sitting standby at home does so because "there's no place like home." I may be naive in thinking that the company is just being kind, but are they really suggesting that someone actually sit the reserve at home, or are they just offering it as an alternative?

I should have clarified my only experience was with Redoubt here in ANC. They made me go to the Captain Cook from 10am to 9pm, even though the hotel is further from the ramp than my house. Didn't make much sense. Those rooms were extras not ones that are already bought and paid for.

HTL STBY @ Home ???

Good responses, and I was more curious to find out how the "local crowd" would respond to this, sitting at home or crash pad on HTL STBY.
I don't know what the answer is to this, it might seem at first that they are trying to save $$$ on the HTL STBY rooms, but I have also been watching it real close and those HTL STBY trips usually are ending up with RESERVES, filling them, but there can be TRIP TRADES into these.
So, in that same vein, in other cities, the HTL STBY's are staying at designated hotels and they are picked up via company provided G.T., so why should we be doing this differently here in MEM ? I believe that to be offered the HTL STBY from HOME, is a conflict with standing practice in other cities and presents a dangerous precedent to the Crewmember, in case something does not go right, such as MISSING A CALL, CAR BREAKS DOWN ENROUTE, NO SHOW for whatever reasons. I also believe that if I accept such assignment from HOME, I should be afforded some kind of protection in case a problem does occur. Is there a place in the contract that dictates the Crewmember responsibilities for HTL STBY's ? If you sit this at HOME and it is printed out on the pairing, do you have to call in prior to the period starting, like you would at the HOTEL ? Do you drive yourself to work assignment or does the Company have to provide transportation ?
Not trying to make this difficult but I wanted to know how folks feel about this and does this need clarification ???

Only negative I see is the liability imlpications if something happens to you in between your home and AOC vice between the hotel and AOC in company provided transportation. Get smacked by one of Memphis' finest at 2am with no insurance in company provided transpo and you're covered as being on your trip. In your own vehicle, you're not. You take that risk every day so it's a minor point to be considered.

I wouldn't consider it a minor point. Slip and fall in the hotel bathroom and it is covered under workmans comp same as the drive in company provided transportation. Anything happens at home or between home and democrat lot and you are on your own

Doing Hotel STBY at home is like deviating - the company won't help you until you are in position

Has anyone actually stood a "hotel standby" from their Memphis home, at the request of CRS? I ask this because it would seem to me that once you are past the report time for the "trip" then you should be legally covered, if by happenstance, you manage to either get into an accident on the drive in to work, or for whatever reason, fail to show if the standby was activated. Since I don't believe that the company will provide indemnity in either case, I personally find it highly unlikely that they would actually offer or ask someone to accept a standby period from home. Again, the question is "does anyone know of someone who actually did one of these (at the company's request?)" Otherwise, I'd consider it an old-wives-tale.
