Quote: The posting for this position came out today.....
Was it a result of your message or just normal timing by the SCP?

BTW- the new job is in MEM, not ANC
Hmmmmm.... kind of keeps the ANC riff raff from seeking the position doesn't it? Easier to keep them in line with a Memphite in firm control.

Makes perfect sense if you read the "Position Purpose" (aka Job Description).....

"......Coordinate with the Director of Operations and his staff ..... to manage the daily activities of flight management personnel
assigned to ANC and our foreign domiciles......" (among other things)

This part is VERY easy to do (and much more effectively/efficiently) from MEM....sheesh....can't you guys see that?

(curiously, no mention of leading/inspiring activities involved??....and no leadership/ispirational/combat experience in the qualifications either??)

It does require:

Promote the welfare and morale of assigned crewmembers,

and

Strong management, human relations and communications skills are
essential.

As well as:

a candidate not currently qualified in the MEM/11/C crew
position, must successfully qualify in that position.

That's most likely true. These guys are MANAGERS, not LEADERS.

Since I've been at FedEx, it has astounded me how most everyone thinks they are still in the military around here, and still assigned to some sort of military flying outfit - WE'RE NOT!!!

.....

They don't lead anyone - it's not what they're paid to do. .....
I would not say that leadership is a trait exlusive to the military. When people talk of CEO's of note or captains of industry such as GE's Jack Welch, etc they speak of their leadership qualities.

Managers are more suited for Taco Bell and Arby's stores, industry leading/adaptive companies require leadership.

Granted.

Caveat - ACP's, RCP's, even SCP's don't equal CEO

You could possibly get me to agree that the VP of Flight Operations should be a leader - but anyone below that is a manager (like @ Taco Bell)

But in our company's case, even the VP of Flight isn't doing a very good job leading/inspiring the troops - now is he?

And, sorry to burst anyone's bubble - but I don't know what everyone is getting all choked up over JP in ANC being replaced - he's a nice guy and all, but "my inspiration"?? c'mon.....really?? I mean......REALLY??

I guess I'm just not seein' it like y'all are.....but.....what-ever.

I heard a guy called in sick for all but his last Rday (if you stay sick for the entire month on res the total value of you Rline will come out of your sick bank, even if they don't try to use you, so I was told) then LK called him at home and asked if was in position for that one Rday and the guy said "no" so now he is in trouble. My question is why would the guy answer that question? without talking to the union.
You don't want to lie, but if there wasn't a "failure to contact" did LK have the right to ask the question?

disclaimer:: I may have the story all wrong

Ok.. before this goes off the deep end of reality...

He got the call from LK and it was a normal hey "I'm the new guy up here, how ya doin" yada yada yada... then after a 2 min conversation it was realized it was an inquisition, a hunt for punishable information... the guy shut up as soon as he figured out he wasn't talking to a "JP" type manager.

So the guy told him what the reality is in ANC and how we arrive about 30 hours early so the deal has been if there's nothing on the last day, adios.. "no one day trips in ANC"

The plot thickens. He get's talked into a letter by our grievance chair, "best we can get" might as well accept it... (bs btw) finally gives in with the grievance chair's recommendation, letter in the file is the best we'll do. next day... oh BTW there's been a development, they now want a day's pay too. Great job negotiating for us there grievance chair... what is the guy going to lose the next day.. his car... house... kids... where do we draw the line?

Still in process, but... lesson learned. if you talk to your acting ACP make sure you're covered legally, I'll have a lawyer on the line with me. Folks in ANC are ****ed, won't talk to the ACP.. real safe environment up there right now. Like we don't have enough to worry about, now there's another distraction.

final note.. after being up in anc and sitting reserve... a lot, something happened I've NEVER seen. this guy gets a call 6 hours from the end of his final day on reserve, they moved a R day (anyone else been able to move an R day?) and get's launched on a reserve trip.

what are the odds that would happen, at all, but to this guy, in this manner, right after the incident? hmmmmmm....
