What Do You Think About Training Date Swaps?

Do you think that the present system of trading training dates with another pilot is fine?

With the current system of trading training dates, pilots wishing to swap have to get POP waivers from other pilots to get the company to execute the swap. If any pilot refuses to submit a POP waiver, they effectively veto the swap.

Do you think that training date swaps should be based on seniority? In other words, if a senior pilot wants to delay downgrade training, should they be able to delay it longer than a more junior pilot? Do you think we should be able to trade at all?

Should we keep the present system, but come to an agreement with the company that they will never have to pay POP as a result of a mutual swap of training dates between pilots that was executed at those two pilots' request?

There was talk last contract negotiations of changing the way training dates were awarded. One of the ideas was to just have the training dates awarded by seniority bid.

That would solve the passover pay issue. There wouldn't be any. UNless the company over-rode someone's bid, I guess.

We are treading awfull close to discussing contract improvements here. We all know that should only be done under the Cone of Silence lest we show the company our hand.

I am with the bid for training dates crowd.

Well, it's gotta be on the map, Davenport, because you say it's 22 miles away, and you're really smart...yet it's not on the map.

Didn't mean to step on your turf; if you want to tell him not to talk about contract improvements go ahead.;)

Nope, I just find how you approach things humorous at times.

Are you referring to the person who is trying to change our training swap system? On the 777 there are multiple captains that are being excessed and want to swap with more junior FO's to push back their training dates and pay cuts. A certain person does'nt want to allow the swaps so he is trying to change the contract to fit his needs. There are still numorous FO's that want to swap. I cant believe the company and union will allow this but nothing surprises me anymore. If anyone has more facts please fill free to clue me in..

That's exactly what I am referring to. Some pilots are blocking training date swaps in hopes that the individual (A300 Captain) can broker a deal with the company that will give senior pilots preference in the swap process.

It will be interesting to hear the union's opinion on this.
