DHL's problems in the US
From a DHL IC message board. Remember, these guys depend on DHL for their livelyhood, they don't want them to founder.
It appears DHL USA volume will keep dropping which means more fixed expenses spread out over a smaller base....I smell doom.....I smell layoffs....I smell more stupid Plantation plans...on top of all this there is a public relations disaster coming down the road....I really am starting to have my doubts that DHL will stay in the US in its present form.
What implications does that have on ABX and Astar if DHL continues to founder and downsize in the US market?

While everybody knows that UPS has lots of money, FedEx announced this week that profits were up 27% from last year. So what does DHL have to offer after laying off most of their work force nearly 3 years ago? Nothing!!!!
DP/DHL has lost so much money and even if DP has deep pockets, it HURTS!!! It hurts knowing that you lost great amounts of money and looked stupid in the progress. Let's face it...DHL is a joke and everyone is laughing at them.
DHL has no chance of survival in the US. UPS, FedEx and the USPS are just too big, too strong and are getting stronger and bigger by the day. Oh yeah, they also pay their workers fair wages and benefits. And they have morals and ethics too.
Goodbye DHL because your days are numbered. Good riddances too!!!

DHL is so clueless. They spent all that money to advertise their "service", and now they are going to have even worse service as they begin laying off all the core, critical people that maintain service. Hello, DHL, anyone there? Lay off some supervisors. Invest in the critical part of your company that produces all the ****ty service: the IC's. Our station is an excellent example of what's wrong. The employees we generally hire range from excellent (usually gone within a year after they find a better job, unless they perversely begin to like the job) to poor (as in not fit to push the button for the french fry station at McDonald's). In the time I have been here, not one ****ing thing has really changed. Same old ****, totally unreliable service because the drivers aren't around long enough to actually know the route and run it efficiently, much less develop customer rapport. Turnover is horrible, and when it comes to service, turnover is a killer in this business. IC employees can't make it on the slave wages and lack of even the most basic of benefits. I was surprised to learn that supervisors at our station make less than I do...And I make just what I need (and not much more). It's hard to put my finger on it, but my sense of the situation is that DHL needs to expend more energy on making the IC's sustainable in order to keep this company alive. I believe, however, that they have staked their survival as a company on the Auschwitz model of slave labor, which will only hasten their destruction. They only fed them (the concentration camp victims) what they needed to survive (no medical there either), and weren't much concerned about their future, as they were all destined for the ovens anyway. And I am getting tired of being a Soderkommando ferrying my fellow couriers to the ovens...

It wouldn't surprise me at all, to see DHL eliminate domestic services, except "maybe" for some large-volume shippers, and concentrate mostly on International freight, which is the only service on which they can still make money (if they don't give it all away like they do with the domestic).
I'm enjoying their financial problems, even if it does ultimately affect me, because DHL is a scumbag company owned by the scumbag German government, the anti-American and anti-American worker German government.

This is very funny. I see the problem: as they shrink their expenses, service goes down. As service goes down, less freight comes through. As less freight comes through, less revenue comes in, which in turn forces them to reduce expenses. Repeat. This is a vicious downward spiral. Mayday, mayday! Going down! I have to say I won't be here for the long term; after all, I am one of those worthless IC employees that works his ass off for nothing. Same old problems, over and over again.

(what am I doing, I'm responding to a Browntail post )
The whole point of that message board is they are non-union ICs. They WANT to be TEAMSTERS, and DHL EMPLOYEES (which they're not)
But I've got to ask... Since you spend 18 hours a day online doing your crap, BrownButt, how did it take so long for you to find Terry Moore's message board???
And can't you afford a lousy 10 bucks for new screenames on FI??? You keep telling us how much money you're making!!

Hey Browntail:
You might want to go get that colonoscopy this year. You're about that age and something just doesn't smell right around here. No, I'm not hoping something bad happens to you during that C-check, but really, what do you do for your fellow man? I feel sorry for you. You must be very lonely.

DHL is not owned by "the German Government"... The german post office is not part of their government and is a publicly traded corporation.
