Default ANR headsets at FedEx

What is a good cheap noise reducing headset, and which are legal at Fedex? I was looking at ordering a QC-15 with a UFly MIke adaptor or just a cheap light speed type in the 300-400 dollar range. I am more worried about losing it than reliablity

I already have a hearing problem and bought the Sennheiser headset. It is nice, but over priced and requires batteries. The Telex 810 is probably a better choice at $410 from MyPilotStore.com. ANR units help a lot with understanding radio calls, but you would need to cover both ears for the whole flight for them to be protective. That would be very uncomfortable and require a voice activated intercom.

I'm not at FedEx, but Sennheiser just came out with these. They're pretty pricey, but they're TSO approved and have a talk-through feature that allows you to hear the other pilot without taking off the ear cup. They look pretty cool.

Bought my Sennheiser quite a few years ago when I was in the Boeing. My cheaper, refurbished model 25KAS came with the same warranty as a new model and with the ALPA/airline discount it was well worth the $$ and avoiding the potential hearing loss from flying with Capt Klacker .

Been flying with the Zulu Lightspeed for about a year; well worth the coin, but you should be concerned about leaving it on the plane. One guy I know who had a Bose left it on and by the time he got bact to the plane from ops it was gone. Most crew members ca figure out the mic forward function pretty quickly (although not all). What I don't understand is why all our planes don't just have them permanently installed, because the increase in situational awareness while wearing mine and the fatigue reducing effect is noticeable. Good luck with your decision.

That would indicate that they gave a sh1t about us. That aint gonna happen.....

I've been flying with a Zulu in a CRJ also and really like the headset. I had an earlier model (30 3 G) and they have a trade in program that took $400 off of my new headset. What is the mic forward function? Is that something specific to the lightspeed or the airbus?

i think the lightspeed zulu is not TSO'd which means it's not legal to use at FDX. fwiw

Three years ago, I was given the advise...."If you can afford the Bose....buy the Bose.....If you can't afford the Bose.....buy it anyway".

My wife said: "You spend $1000.00 now or much more in co-pays and hearing aids"............that made more sense.

I talk to some that love the sennheiser and some who bought it and wish they bought the Bose.

I haven't spoken to anyone that wishes they hadn't bought the Bose. Of course they may be trying to justify spending that kind of cash on a headset.
(Like me)

I bought the Bose and never looked back......so I don't know what's out there...but if the Quiet Comfort headset with the U fly mike is TSO'd, I'd probably buy that today......You can also wear it on a deadhead flight and not look like a dork.

Many guys on the MD-11 claim not to need one, but I still find the noise levels high compared to the 727 with Bose. There are probably a few people with the headset for sale and could buy it used.

Place a wanted ad on the bulletin board at AOC. I am sure some DP flier who needs a little more money for xmas will hoc their old one.

I think the Aviation X is/was so expensive because it was the only product they (Bose) had which was TSO'd
