Could someone out there expound on the FedEx / UPS currency requirements. Is there a hard requirement for 100 hours in the last year? Does it matter what type airplane those hours are in? I am in the military in a non flying job for the next 10 months before I am out and will have a tough time logging 100 hours in military aircraft. Would it help to log the hours in a light civil? Thanks for all of the great information so far.

I can tell you that from my what I know there is a 100 hour in the last 12 months "rule". There are always exceptions and this is not written anywhere public that I know of but with the amount of applicants I do not see them going much below that target. If I was you I would find a way to log those hours. Good luck. I am talking about FDX.

Does the aircraft type matter for the 100 hours?

Military, FAR 121, FAR 135 or Corporate would be best obviously. If that is not possible I would be flight instructing or flying the largest A/C you can log time in.

Thanks for the information.

Not a hard and fast rule

There are a lot of factors that go into this formula. I think the most important has to do with the meet and greet. I would find someone who has a good rep with the current administration and get him to walk you in when you get a chance, even prior to your exit from the military. I don't think the 100 hour is hard and fast. They understand there are some cases where it is just impossible to get the time, i.e. you're deployed to Iraq in a non-flying position. Little tough to go out in Falusia and get the Cessna fired up for a run around the pattern. Just have to be aware if you are called for an interview the onus is on you to be ready for the sim.

Well, my buddy, hired in Jan, and was the junior guy for 4+ months, hadn't flown in 4 years when he interviewed, other than a few hours in the sim! So, if it is a "rule", its not hard and fast "rule"!

All of the sudden my 10 months flying a desk don't seem so insurmountable. That's encouraging information, thanks to all for the clarification.

Like I said there are always exceptions, but when I have done meet and greets the ACP's always stress the need to stay current. If it is not possible just be prepared to have a good reason why and I am sure that will not be a negative on your application.

Good Luck.
