Are you kidding me??? Next week is now the next meeting. Both sides need to think "outside the box" Oh well, let the bottom 300 hang for another week!

Who knows.....
No reason why they can't just let you fly your RDG line and pay you 75 hrs. They won't like it but that will all be part of cutting their "loses".

This is unbelievable. Challenge the union to "think outside the box?" What was it they did when the union came up with the VJPP? They came up with a win-win solution. Then they thought outside the box on how to get more savings later. Now the company wants to just terrorize and challenge the group. What a terrible place. If the bottom 300 get furloughed, I would bet that even if it lasts 5 years, most will have a 25 year career here to think about how to never help such a terrible place.

So just so I understand this. The union extended an offer to make up the 10% shortfall at the end of the year. This would allow the company to take $51 million in savings for 2010, and then if they fail to get the other money, they can still furlough (for 4 years at that point... according to their intel)... and get the rest of the savings then. It would help them keep the training facility going smoothly, avoid relocation expenses, wait for the impact of FAA crew rest rules, watch the direction of the economy, and get the flexibility of staffing that our contract doesn't otherwise offer them. Not to mention helping employees and supporting their families. Furloughed people certainly won't find a good job in this market.

Their actions are nothing short of terrorism and crappy management (would Southwest turn something like this down?). I don't fault UPS for being overstaffed or for the economy. I also don't buy the argument that as long as they are profitable they shouldn't furlough anyone. They are a business and people all through the system are effected. Should they be able to furlough ground people and not pilots? BUT... the union is resonable and offered a good solution. The company is probably trying to use the situation (extortion) to see if they can get some permanent change to the contract, but I don't think anyone on the list supports that. I will take a furlough before some bad contract. The new union leader is posting on the B&G and he seems to support the MOU. I'm surprised, and pleased to see it.

From the look of it the company wants to keep dangling the layoff, big surprise. The bottom three hundred will probably become accustom to this behavior from the company as they do it over an extended period, the only good news about dangling is that they aren't totally on the street.

Just curious why the union has not gone public with the MOU and the efforts being put forth on our behalf? Perhaps an OP-ED peice in the local rag would let folks know that we are trying to work with the company in resolving our staffing issue. On a similar note why has UPS not had an airplane land in Haiti contributing to the relief effort? We have IPA pilots willing to work for free in the effort. That would be another question for one of the biggest money makers in the SDF area. I am sure they could spin it in their favor but a little PR in our favor couldn't hurt.
