Default FDX vto and vacation

As my seniority continues to plummet, the only thing I could hold is a VTO. I know in the past everyone has said do not bid vto's on a vacation month. Are there any pitfalls to avoid when doing the vto work sheet? Any advise would be great.

Thanks

Really only one pitfall. If you get reserve on your VTO line, you will not be leveled for your vacation, as you would with a reserve line. Other than that, they will just build the remainder of your line minus your entire awarded vacation line credit. IE, a seven day vacation will account for 42 hrs, and your remaining month will consist of trips worth whatever total credit hours that they building to for that month.

Review carefully Section 7 (vacation) particularly 7.G.2. It's been my experience that futures will simply lop off your vacation CHs from the target BLG (haha) then start plugging in your requests for the remaining hours in the target. Say 85 hour line minus 7 days (42ch's vacation) leaves them to build a 43 hour line for you. My advice is to make your days off request your #1 priority on the sheet in order to max out your time off. Put a realistic request for days off adjacent to your vacation footprint. Your #1 priority carries the most weight. Good luck.

WARNING:

If you get reserve on your Secondary Line (with vacation) this is how they'll build your line:

MAX Secondary line value minus 13 hour spread = minimum Secondary Line gurarantee

They will take your 42 hours vacation and subract it from the minimum

Then, they will add R-days until your line has equalled or just exceeded the minimum.

Example:

ANC MD11 FO for April:

FCIF stated the MAX Secondary Line will be 91:35

so 91:35 - 13:00 (spread) = 78:35 - 42:00 (vacation) = 35:35 CH

They will add R-days only until they equal/exceed 35:35 CH - and then NO MORE

an R-day is worth 4:16 x 9 R-days = 38:04

8 R-days would be 34:08 + 42:00 vacation would only get you to 76:08 (just under the BUV of 78:25)

so an ANC FO with 42 CH of vacation will get 9 R-days = BLG of 80:04

which, ironically, is BELOW RLG, but still above BUV

OR......the company may choose to pay you for only 8 R-days and buy you up 2:17 to the BUV instead of adding that 1 extra R-day

Secondary Line w/Vacation and so junior that your Secondary Line will have only R-days is the worst of the worst of the worst schedule to get.

will be interesting to see how they do it since April is the first BUV month.

Please let us know.

I will let you know how it turns out. I am under the assumption that the BUV will be the min.
