UPS Failed to Deliver

This article says a lot

UPS and Apple Miss April 3rd Delivery Date for Hawaiian iPad Pre-Orders (NASDAQ: AAPL) (NYSE: UPS) : American Banking News

It would appear Apple is a wee bit perturbed

To Our Valued Apple Customer: Thank you for your recent purchase of the magical and revolutionary Apple iPad. We would like to advise you Saturday delivery is not available in your area. Your order will be delivered on Monday April 5th.

This does not apply to those who reserved for in-store pickup at one of the 3 Apple retail stores in Honolulu as UPS will be delivering those pallets to the store. Just residential deliveries will not be made by UPS primarily due to the tight shipping window specified by Apple and the early logistical decisions made by UPS with regards to the Hawaii batches of iPad’s shipped from China.

Customers in other parts of the US defined as rural by UPS also are receiving the same e-mail message.

It should be noted that Apple did mention about this possibility of a delayed delivery on their preorder page. What is probably annoying some customers though is that Apple normally ships via FedEx which has a pretty good track record of making Saturday delivery when a customer pays extra for that service. UPS is proving they are unable to do so even with Apple making arrangements with WorldEase. The next time Apple has a high profile preorder release such as this, they should specify which shipper they are using so that customers can make a better informed decision.

We haven't even furloughed yet and they're already losing contracts. Anyone who thinks the open time and JA ban aren't working should think again.

"Dear customer, UPS screwed you"

Sincerely,
Apple

UPS should write a response ...

Dear iPad Consumer:

We are sorry that you will not be receiving your iPad on time as specified by Apple. Take a deep breath, the world is not coming to an end.

Your iPad will be delivered as soon as possible, most likely on Monday. Then, you'll be able to show off to the world how snoobish and elitist you are for buying a flat panel that doesn't multi-task, has no adobe flash (sorry you'll have to wait for a YouTube app --- that you can pay for), no camera, requires you to pay for and download all content from the App Store, needs an adapter for USBs because it doens't have them, and once again throw away cash to AT&T for their already overtasked network.

Thank you and have a good day.

...yep, that should do it. Problem solved:confused:

Is there any part of the iPad that was made in the USA? Or all of it in China? More Chinese lead-painted junk waiting to be returned to the store under warranty. Maybe you can return the drywall in your house also made in China along with the beloved iPad.

Doesn't sound from the article like this was caused a shortage of pilots or a lack of lift, or a late arrival due to crew problems does it? I'd like to believe that we've totally ruined the Ipad rollout, but seems like a Hawaii issue that had little to do with the pilot group. Did I miss something?

say that again 04-07-2010 05:04 AM

Nope, you didn't miss a thing other than a few postings from people who want to blame everything wrong in their life on UPS management. Note, I am not now, have never been nor will I ever be a UPS manager.

repeat posting????

Since the furlough message Feb 8, my last four trips have ALLLLLL had modifications, whether it be cancellation, equipment sub, managment emergency flying, change of layover due to lack of crewmember availability, or delay waiting for a Capt to become legal.

These aren't typical for a corporation that is laying off in the face of having "more money than we know what to do with" or rewarding the CEO with a 6.1% increase in compensation.

The logistical problems that are described in Apple's letter go hand-in-hand with the fact have reduced our lift in the face of a cargo volume recovery and had to outsource to Atlas to provide lift for the IPAD rollout.

So tell us, STA, if this isn't due to poor planning and execution on behalf of UPS Management, than where is the origin of these problems ???

Corholio ? Buehler ? Maybe Jimmy Carter ?

I'd love to know how is asleep at the switch ? Since UPS has never furloughed before this is unknown territory for the airline side of the house and the $XXX millions they are projecting to save on paper will be more like $XX.

Accountability starts at the top.

Pretty good source was telling me that Atlanta wanted to can all but 50 - 60 of the "Management" types. They were tired of these guys picking exactly what flights they wanted to go on and IPA guys sitting at home. The company was essentially paying two pilots for the same flight. The decision was made to get rid of them. Make the remaining ones do what EVERY other airline does with "Management"...well you manage.

RB and BL said they could control that group better than the IPA. Sold Atlanta on furloughing 300 IPAer's instead. What is funny is to hear these clown talk about UPS "having-their-back". They are paid guns to do the flying contractually belongs to us. Now these guys are flying all the stuff they would have never touched before. Some of the stuff they are doing is highly suspect, just to keep the boxes moving. These guys are not stupid, but they are in a difficult position. Not doing anything illegal (that I have seen) but it does raise an eyebrow.

These are some interesting times.

I'm on day three of my trip and have already talked to three managers that have signed their cards and sent them in.

I think once they realize Atlanta truly hates them too, they will all sign their cards. Their lawyers are the only ones threatening these guys.

I mean if you have to say "Is this illegal" before you do something with your job....there is probably an issue.

Just sayin:cool:
