Plane skids off runway at Louisville International

The Courier-Journal

A FedEx 727 aircraft skidded off a runway at Louisville International Airport Thursday morning during an aborted takeoff.

None of the three crew members on the plane was injured, and there is no apparent damage to the plane, according to airport spokeswoman Rande Swann. The incident occurred at about 9:17 a.m. on the airport’s east runway. It is not known yet why the pilot aborted takeoff.

Swann said the airport’s other two runways remain open and operating, and there are no disruptions to flights scheduled for arrival or departure.

The airport has notified the Federal Aviation Administration of the incident, as is standard procedure, and is awaiting the administration’s clearance before it assists FedEx in moving the plane, Swann said.

If the article is correct, probably just throw a new motor in there and off she goes!

Airport sources tell WHAS11 News that the plane was headed down the runway full throttle when a compressor inside one of its three engines apparently blew. The pilot quickly slammed on the brakes before hitting anything on the runway.

Those damned Compressors!

They are awaiting FAA inspection and approval before they can move the plane into the garage to take a look at it.

Do they take it to the same garage that I get my oil changed at?

Freakin media can never get anything right.

Yep . . . 'slamming' on the brakes certainly was the ticket to a successful abort. And it is comforting that he did not hit anything on the damn runway. .what we got UPS pilots wandering around out there on a hub turn?

Drew, I think that they almost hit one of those big orange barrels that they put out when one lane of the runway is being repaved.

They have a couple of videos here: WAVE3 TV Louisville: FedEx Plane Leaves Runway After Aborted Takeoff

Does it look like the #1 engine pod is discolored?

looks like to whole top of the exhaust/reverser area of #1 is gone or damaged to me. Will be interesting to find out why they went off the runway.
