FDX-Pilot Math (Vacation)
I have vacation (7 days) in November and I was thinking about bidding reserve for next month. I was looking in the contract at the reserve vacation extension procedures and this is what it says:
The maximum extension shall be determined by the following formula: Maximum Extension = ({[(Number of vacation days (as awarded or slid) in the bid period multiplied by 6) + 6] * R-day value} rounded down) minus the number of originally scheduled vacation days in the bid period. Example: A pilot has a 7 day vacation period in a bid period in which the R-day value is 4:36. The maximum extension is {[(7 x 6) +6] * 4.600} - 7 = [(42 + 6) * 4.600] - 7 = (10.434 rounded down) - 7 = 10 - 7 = 3. {[(7 * 6) + 6] * 4.62} - 7 = {[42 + 6] * 4.62} - 7 = {48 * 4.62} - 7 = 221 - 7 = 214 So, the contract is saying that I can extend my vacation 214 days next month... looks like I'm taking the next 7 months off... Enjoy peak without me this year, fellas!!! See you in May... suckers!!! |

So... I'm no rocket surgeon and my small western military school education has long since faded, but... using the formula in the contract I get: {[(7 * 6) + 6] * 4.62} - 7 = {[42 + 6] * 4.62} - 7 = {48 * 4.62} - 7 = 221 - 7 = 214 So, the contract is saying that I can extend my vacation 214 days next month... looks like I'm taking the next 7 months off... Enjoy peak without me this year, fellas!!! See you in May... suckers!!! {[(7 x 6) +6] ÷ 4.600} - 7 = [(42 + 6) ÷ 4.600] - 7 = (10.434 rounded down) - 7 = 10 - 7 = 3 No partial credit, so back to your desk and redo the math!! ;) |
Good Luck with that............. Don't take all the shrimp at the hub turn Christmas buffet

Your math might be correct, but your formula is wrong:
{[(7 x 6) +6] ÷ 4.600} - 7 = [(42 + 6) ÷ 4.600] - 7 = (10.434 rounded down) - 7 = 10 - 7 = 3 No partial credit, so back to your desk and redo the math!! ;) Looks like FedEx intern doesn't know know that there's a difference between a '/' and a '*'... P.S. I knew it was supposed to be /, but was surprised when I saw the equation wrong online. |

Use this link and save the .pdf to your computer.
https://pilot.fedex.com/contract/pdf_files/cba_2006.pdf Like this picture https://pilot.fedex.com/contract/images/cross.gif which means we got screwed somehow in the contract. Or this picture https://pilot.fedex.com/contract/images/note.gif which means we got screwed somehow in the contract. Or this picture https://pilot.fedex.com/contract/images/scales.gif which (surprisingly) also means we got screwed somehow. Plus, that Acrobat program is so dang expensive... |

Another vacation question. I want to use max hours of vacation in Nov. I have 7 days scheduled starting on 22 Nov.
I know I can slide and knock out to back to back week long pairings. But I can't expand and knock out any more than 48 hours, correct (42 + 6)? My dream would be to slide and knock out thanksgiving week and a week of C/O. But since the most of the C/O trips start on the Dec 5th I guess I cant do that, right? |
Lag,
If you can expand your vacation to touch a long trip, there is no limit to how much vacation time you burn. If it is more than what you have in your bank for 2010, you will be docked that time from next year's vacation. If you have a string of 6 CH trips, the system will only permit you to use one extra vacation day (6CH) over what you have for the end of NOV. If you have 8 days, you can burn 9 days regardless how many hours you have left in your vacation bank. I hope this helps. I lost 10 CHs a few years ago and I am still steamed at myself. |
