I know FedEx isn't hiring right now, but just for speculation's sake, I present to you this scenario:

Let's say a guy get's hired as a handler/courier/etc. by FedEx Express. He works 6 months, then gets sponsored by a reserve unit and goes to UPT...on mil leave for roughly 2 years. Would that time on mil leave count towards the required one year at FDX to apply as an internal applicant?

The time would probably count (you guys are protected by USERRA,) but it would be tough to meet the internal pilot requirements, like supervisor recommendation or good recent job evals, if you haven't worked there for two years.

Runner,

I don't know the answer to your question but I know who will ... I recommend you contact FedEx ALPA and ask to speak to (email, leave a message for?) for the Military Affairs rep (ALPA website says his name is F/O Steve Miller, email [email protected]).

Also, I "think" one of our former FDX ALPA MEC members (maybe Wes Reed?) is the ALPA National Military Affairs rep?

One of them (maybe both?) should be able to answer your question.

SleepyF18 ... you still monitoring these boards?

Regards ... Mark

Also realize you've got to get your 1000 turbine PIC unless you go to UPT with it(highly unusual) and to build that time could take awhile depending on what airframe you fly. To make matters worse, you'll have to constantly take military leave from the courier/handler job to build that time unless you can score long term orders(not dependable). While legal this will not make an immediate supervisor happy if they have to constantly fill a hole for you. Lots of things to think about. I'm sure it can be done but there are a lot of moving parts to think about.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input.

Your chances are probabally just as good getting hired on with fedex after you finish UPT, as opposed to being an internal.

This of course is predicated upon you meeting the minimums for hire at the time.

What is the minimum requirement to qualify as an internal applicant?

I'm a current FedEx employee working my way towards my CFI, at which point I will leave to instruct, then go to the regionals, and hopefully by the end of the decade make it back to FedEx.

Also, if you leave a courier/handler job at FedEx to go to a regional, do you still get to apply as an internal applicant providing you have worked there for the required time?

I'm pretty sure that the "Internal" part means that you are a current FedEx employee. If you return to FedEx, you will get your current employee number reassigned to you, but that is the only benefit that you will enjoy.
In short, if you can show a current FedEx ID, you are an "Internal." If you cannot, then you are in the "All others" grouping. Good luck on your plans.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was hoping otherwise, but that would make life too easy.

I'll probably see some of you on the ramp here in Denver soon.

Cheers.
