A lot of "reasonable guys" disagree with your point Or, by "reasonable," do you mean all those who agree with you? Most of these drivers love being "independent contractors." Ever talked to one of them? I have. Just because the teamsters and, by default UPS, has mobilized a few of them, in an attempt to attack the very successful FedEx business model in the courts, doesn't make this an issue. You have a very cynical outlook on the company that puts food on your table. Must suck to have so much hate?

I still believe these "contractors" are treated more like employees than "contractors" and exert little control over their "businesses" no matter what the purple spin machine may put out. But I guess we will just have to disagree.
And my cynicsim gets me through hub turns and annual training...

FedEx did not create this contractor situation. It was in place and approved as RPS long before the business was purchased by FedEx. If you buy a McDonalds you must use their equipment, wear their uniforms, follow their rules then why can't you buy a route or work for a route owner under the same guidelines? Maybe the teamsters should go after all franchises if that is their true concern for the working men and women. I'm not sayng it's right or wrong but the government can't approve the model and have a massive system put in place then sold and then reversed at the buying companies expense. If forced to employ all ground contractors FedEx would most likely get rid of half of them(or more) and combine deliveries with Express which would strengthen the Teamsters(UPS's) case to remove them from the RLA. If you think any of this is out of concern for the drivers then make sure you hire them if it passes. Now let's go after the big money with McD's, B.K. and the rest of the franchise employees.
