Thanks for that. Trying to figure out more creative ways to get to Europe, since I go often.
I know UPS has trips there all over the place as well, and am trying to explore that option. I know with some of the PAX carriers you can jumpseat. I hear Delta and Continental are pretty good about it, American only with certain airlines if there is a recip agreement with them. Curious about the cargos. :) |

Some time ago (maybe 18 - 24 months?), I emailed the then NWA jumpseat coordinator to ask if I could jumpseat on an international NWA flight. IIRC, he replied that a CASS carrier pilot COULD jumpseat on any NW flight but for intl there needed to be an available seat in the cabin ... (I have no idea about the now merged DAL policies?).

No international CASS jumpseats allowed in cockpit per TSA; hence, must ride in the back on a pax, and no int'l JS on either FedEx or UPS.

Since we're on the topic of UPS jumpseats. What is the rule on getting bumped? I hear that w/in 24 hours of the flight you cannot be bumped (besides company business). Is this true? What about for FedEx?

That doesn't seem to be true with FedEx. I just called this morning to book a jumpseat from EWR-MEM-DFW. They confirmed me on the MEM-DFW flight. About an hour later, Jumpseats called back to tell me I'd been bumped. It's not a big deal as she confirmed me on the 2nd MEM-DFW flight.

There are several reasons to get bumped inside of 24 hours. The aircraft gauge may have changed and there are fewer jumpseats available on the new aircraft. A late minute operational emergency crew maybe jumpseating now and bumping others. DOD couriers will bump personal or staging jumpseaters. A jumpseat may have an MEL.

Oh trust me. I'm not *****ing. I'm extremely grateful to the FedEx guys for a ride. They're awesome! It's a moot point now, though, since the airport is closed until 1800 and all the flights for my wife are cancelled.

Wasn't suggesting anything, just letting you that sometimes even we can't guarantee a jumpseat when you absolutely, positively have to be there. :D
