Both UPS and Fed Ex effectively have always had a no strike clause, inasmuch as neither Democrat or Republican executive branches would ever allow us to strike. The only reason the Teamsters weren't shut down in some fashion by the Clinton administration in '97 was their debt to Teamsters. They had no such debt to IPA and we had our hat handed to us when we requested release from mediation in '98. Nobody with any power in DC stands to gain anything by siding with us in any fashion in labor disputes, but they do owe to the PACS of both Fed Ex and UPS.
The power lies in staying in the cockpit and following their rules...look how much IPA has accomplished stopping the furloughs.
We are not "labor" in anyone's eyes but our own...how WE conduct ourselves, how WE stand up for our contracts, how WE stand up for our own. Joe six-pack and everybody in government couldn't possibly care less about our fate if they tried, despite what they might say in public.
We are on our own kids.
