FDX App Website Delayed, Opening 24JAN 0601z

SSIA.

Due to 'last minute modifications.'

More time to get that FE written done. ;)

wow - I believe you, can you quote the source?

thanks :-)

via fcif from the System Chief Pilot.

It is true.

2005 Blues 01-14-2011 10:26 PM

Man, that's brutal. On the 24th we'll get the "bean counters are still working on the numbers" FCIF then a couple weeks later the "flying hour projections aren't quite done yet" FCIF followed by some "software glitches are being worked out" FCIF. Application website will be open on the 24th of April or so. I guess we're just trying to get potential applicants used to what it's like working here before they even apply.;)

Good luck guys, hopefully it'll be ready before the 24th.

Sunny1 01-15-2011 02:18 AM

Just like my mamma.......or the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow used to say......All good things come to those who wait......I'll just have to keep reminding myself of that as I check the app website several times each day :D

Blackbird 01-15-2011 05:00 AM

So I missed out on sleep last night for nothing.

HumptyDumpty 01-15-2011 05:18 AM

No, it's got nothing to do with projections. It has to do with one word:

Lawyers

They didn't like some wording.

T-1A 01-15-2011 05:57 AM

Not only the sleep but I just took my FEX yesterday and was using the refresh button from 2359....until i woke up from the puddle of drool on the couch...

abuesing 01-15-2011 07:03 AM

I think it is safe to reduce the rate of clicking from twice a minute to once every other minute.

Good practice for when you get here and are checking open time... refresh, refresh, refresh, bot code, refresh, refr.... zzzzz

dudemize 01-15-2011 08:28 AM

No need to stress guys, it has been stated on another thread that it is not a FIFO (first in, first out) system.

I know we're all excited to apply though!

MaydayMark 01-15-2011 09:16 AM

This looks like another fine example of management not meeting their own deadline. If we did our jobs like that, we'd get fired!

Mink 01-15-2011 09:49 AM

With this much interest (not surprisingly), will be interesting to see if the FDX IT system can handle the bazillion hits it's going to get on the 24th when all these apps come flooding in.

Switch couch for desk and you will be all set for flight engineer duties. :D

RJCapt 01-15-2011 02:23 PM

Man, I just finished my FEX written today WHILE on vacation in order to apply today. Oh well, at least it out of the way.

And short of a delay of more than 2 years in hiring, you're GTG.

rk772 01-15-2011 03:48 PM

Also, looks like the 16th for activation emails is no longer a good date either.

Activation Emails will be sent out and everyone who has updated since August 2008 should receive one during the month of January, 2011.

What are the odds of that happening................................;)

windrider 01-15-2011 04:28 PM

so what do you think competitive times/experience will be to get hired on?? forget about mins...what are they looking for and how crucial will recommendations be? i don't know anyone at fedex but I have 5 type ratings with FAR 121/135 PIC in the B-737, ERJ-170, G-III, LR-60. Eight + years 121 experience. TT > 8000, JET PIC 1500+. I don't have the engineer written but am planning on getting it soon!

From what I've seen over the years, the 'competitive mins' thing tends to be garbage at major airlines. It does seem to be fairly accurate for national/smaller carriers and some regionals, but in general majors seem to hire across a wide spectrum of time/experience with networking being a big factor. As I recall the competitive mins idea was pushed heavily by Air Inc and is something that is often looked at closely by prospective employees or around the water cooler at a given airline, but not really meaning much in the end. While we still know nothing about what the process will entail at FDX going forward, looking at our history I would expect that sponsors/employee recs are still going to be more important than competitive mins. We have a pretty wide range of experience at hire around here, and I would expect that would continue.

"Due to some last minute modifications to the web site, I am delaying the
opening until 24 January, 0601Z. I am sure that everybody recognizes
the importance of getting this process right from the beginning.

...everybody NOT involved on the IT side that is! Those clowns rarely get anything up and running on schedule. C'mon, last minute mods need a whole week to incorporate? Wait a sec, maybe the IT folks aren't alone? Perhaps the circus tent is bigger? IT, O, and PC -- a complete three-ringed act?

All joking aside though, good luck to all the prospective applicants out there. The pendulum is slowly swinging back, and FedEx is a great place to work!

I don't think it's an IT issue... as I understand it, it's a scum-sucking bottom-feeder issue. And they ALL have to stick their fingers in.

5ontheglide 01-16-2011 10:07 AM

Will the 24th mean that we can sign up for a new profile to apply or does it just mean guys will be able to update and existing profile?

I havn't started a profile yet and wondered how detailed it is? How long will it take to fill out once the system opens?

Thanks.

FedEx1 01-16-2011 10:51 AM

If you don't have the FE written current in the last 24 months, regardless of 121 employment, you will not make it through the computerized filter to be looked at later.

Lots of threads going with guys whining about this. It is the way it is. So just go through the hoops like everyone else and get it done.

Yep, the lawyers didn't like some of the questions or wording and didn't approve it. They have to start some of the process over to accommodate them. That's the word on the street...

Wonder why we waited until the 15th to have the lawyers look at it. I'd like to think that if the deadline was the 15th, that the lawyers would have looked at it in time for our "outside vendor" to implement their requested changes. That's the way I'd do it at least, but I have no special skills

md11phlyer 01-16-2011 12:25 PM

If you haven't updated since Nov. 2008 you are going to have to create a new profile, and probably have to pay the $fee$ again.

If you have updated since 2008, as most of my wise recommendees have, you're going to keep your old profile and hopefully be toward the top of the stack.

bleedairpacks 01-17-2011 05:40 AM

Help me understand what the new hires are bidding if we are retiring (25) 727s in 2012?

HalinTexas 01-17-2011 05:49 AM

Well, I thought I had updated since then, but evidently not. Get to take that FEX again. (4th time, I think)

How involved is that FEX? Could a former mechanic pull off a 70 without a study guide?

T-1A 01-17-2011 06:23 AM

Not very involved. Get the good stuff from sheppardair.com. Take the test 24hrs later.

OpieinSA 01-17-2011 06:23 AM

grnclvrs, go to Sheppard Air Flight Test 4.0 Prep Software ATP, Flight Engineer, Mil Comp - FAA Airline Transport Pilot to obtain your test prep material and you will have no problems.

757golf 01-17-2011 06:28 AM

Trust everyone and go to Sheppardair.

T-1A 01-17-2011 06:28 AM

"T-1 eh? CB based? So how is 'ol Nutzo..er...I mean Nuzzo?"

Not sure lately. I left for the reserves in 08'. I've been waiting for the door to open up ever since. Exciting times!

Guess it has been longer than i thought since i updated..... anyway, regarding the FEX and the APP...... what if i have the FE TJ certificate? will that make it through the app filters? Technically i haven't taken the FEX since 199x, but i got certificated as an FE on a DC 10 back then as well.

Pakagecheck 01-17-2011 08:21 AM

Flyer2000
If you are saying that you have your FE ticket, then you don't have to take the written again. It is just like an ATP. You will want to put that as part of your ratings in the application.
