I'll tell you what's happened. Connie Kalitta and a bunch of other wealthy men have put dollars into Inhof's re-election fund. They want to kill the new flight-duty-time legislation because it will, while increasing safety...cost them MILLIONS of dollars! So they found a Senator who is on the take, and threw money at him. He's trying to change the bill so that only Fedex, UPS, and the passenger carriers are going to be subject to the new flight and duty time regulations.

There is no talk of safety here; it is only a discussion of the almighty DOLLAR BILL!

That will make it harder for the Fedex MEC to fight off corporate calls for outsourcing. The company will try to lower our pay rates during negotiations......

Not sure about UPS but Fedex just recently started Flag Ops. We still are also a supplemental carrier. Don't think for a moment that Fedex would not switch back in a nano second to all supplemental flight ops if it keep them from the new flight time/duty time rules. The change to Flag was to reduce fuel requirements on most flight and consequently save money. If flag ops ended up costing more they would switch back.

Have y'all figured out what the lines are going to look like when we can't do more than 3 hub-turns in a row?

As Doctor Ruth used to say, don't ask for something, unless you want to get it.....

They won't be good. However, I think our MEC's input to the NPRM was 4 and the company's was 5.

There will be some bad deals in the NPRM, but I think overall, the good outweighs the bad. It will take out Fedex's infamous "Operational Emergency" where it basically tosses any work rules out the window and you are good for 16 hours no matter when you show up. Another good thing is that more bodies will be required. We will need more of every crew position, and what that basically means to those of us already on property, more captains. I doubt it will be 800+ as Fedex is saying, but it will definitely require more bodies and they will have to add significant reserves to handle any major disruption.

We will have to see the finished product, my guess is the company's will lobby for much less restricted rules than the proposal.

Even if it's half of that, it would add an additional 10% to the number of pilots on the seniority list.

The 800ish number is mostly fiction told to try and influence NPRM decision makers.

I expect 100.
