Default FedEx T/A gives up vacation time?

That's the way I read it. The duty rig moving from 4.0:1 to 3.75:1 works great, but since the language in the vacation section isn't changed we effectively lose a half a day of vacation per 7 days? Tell me I'm wrong. I thought vacation was the sacred cow.

Some will, some won't. Depends on the trips that you can hold when bidding vacation. If you do hub turns, RSV or maybe VTO (I need to think about this one, but VTO in a vacation month never seems to be the best choice) then I believe it will be the same as now. If you bid a line that pays on TAFB, then you will get fewer days off, or use more hours for those days.

Bid different trips when bidding vacation. I do it all the time. When I have vacation I bid lines I would never bid if I had to fly them. Game it a little. In my opinion an easy work-around. It's already happening right now. Senior guys bid reserve during their vacation months because each R-day is worth less.

That's a good solution to the problem. I do that now too. However, it's a solution to a problem that shouldn't be there.

What if you are one of the junior guys that can only hold what is left over. Now not only do you fly lousy trips, you get boned when vacation time comes. Too many hidden "give aways" in this TA!

I think that if you bid reserve, a reserve day is worth R-day value. If R day value goes up, then your bank gets charge accordingly, in the past it was imposible for reservist to use their yearly vacation bank.

Now for a line holders, you are right, you don't loose the days but your bank will be charged 6:20 minutes per day or higher, dependly what you hold.So you might be short of hours to maximize your vacation.

A double sword. However, you need only 1 hour left in your bank to knockoff a vacation trip. You can always make up vacation if you need it.

Wow! This is weird. I guess maybe it would have been better for us to open section 7, to try and increase the value of a vacation day. For what? So, the 40+% that's sold back every year, would be worth more? I don't think the risk of opening that section up would be worth it. I wouldn't want to be on our side of the table and try to rationalize that one, in front of the mediator. Do you guys have a clue as to what amounts are historically sold back at this place?

Getting paid more for a TAFB trip, is NOT a concession. Having a vacation day worth the same as it is today, is NOT a concession.

By the way...I haven't sold more than 10 hours back in 18 years. And, even that embarrasses me.

Here! Here! Busboy! I agree. Most guys with vacation are knocking each other over to try and sell it back to the company and if they actually had to get in line to do it there would be fistfights. Opening up Sect 7 AND GETTING GREEDY would not be a smart thing to do. Leave it alone. We're lucky the company didn't come after it.

Maybe it was worth opening section 7 and maybe it wasn't. But if you think us being able to buy our way out of 7% less trip time (do the math) for your vacation buck isn't a vacation concession, you and I must not be looking at the same dictionary. Section 7 WAS opened up---right through the back door!
