Thanks for all the replies. I am still very interested in Atlas for hanging up my hat. I will definitely try for a second attempt. Now I'm just wondering what I should do in the meantime. I'm happy where I am but I am only flying ATRs( which is our largest plane ) and no international other than Canada. Not sure if jumping to somenone else with heavies and intl work would look better or just staying put and trying again. I just don't know what dinged me . Probably a little of everything.

Sorry to hear about the "bad" letter, Clarence. I got one too. :(

I wouldn't take it personal. They have shot down lots of good dudes that would have been a great fit at Atlas. No one knows exactly how they weight everything in the final tally. It would be nice if they would tell you where you lost points, though. Won't happen due to liability concerns, unfortunately.

I don't know that it would be worthwhile for you to go somewhere else just to get the international experience. What if you do and get shot down again? You said that you are happy where you are, so I would only go somewhere that you would want to stay long term.

I think World is hiring, should provide a similar quality of life to Atlas. Basing at World is better, but you have to airline around the world in coach (ouch). I think they have a training contract though. That's enough of a reason for me not to apply.

Atlas has hired a lot of regional guys. Every single one in my interview group is in the pool now.

Good luck next time!

fwiw...Cliff did not reapply a second time. We interviewed the first week of april of 2010 and we both received our thanks but not thanks letters the same day, two weeks to the day after our interview. Cliff was called by DB in early July and offered a class date, its my understanding they had emptied the pool and needed to fill a class so they reevaluated his candidate file and offered him a position. To my knowledge he did not apply twice, and I know for a fact he did not go through two interviews.

Thanks for the info. Wish DB would call me too. A bunch of us were there and only two got hired. One is still there.

What ever happened to the days that if 20 positions were open they called 20 people for the interview?

Sorry to hear you received one also Dudemize, did you interview the 14th, 15th or 16th? I'm not taking it personally, they were all very professional and seemed to give the impression ( at least to me ) that they liked my personality so if I had to guess it was either my lack of experience and/or mu presentation. I find that very interesting about ATPCliff. That must have been quite a nice surprise to receive that phone call. I still find it odd that they don't tell you when your able to reapply. It's almost as if they want to see how dedicated one is about working for Atlas.

I interviewed on the 16th.

Well I met every single one of their "preferred" requirements and got shot down, so they must have really hated my personality! :D

In the past, FedEx has shot guys down, then accepted them a year later.

There are also guys at SW that took 2-3 times to get in.

Hey dojet!

I was just making a general observation. Trust me, I would apply as many times as necessary to get on somewhere I really wanted to be.

I'm pulling for you in Round 2 at Atlas!

I guess what I meant to say was that it's nice that excluding one particular airline, HR departments are nice enough to realize that people can have off days. Or simply that they liked the candidates that day/week/month, they just can't hire them all causing supply/demand to prevail. But they'll reward somebody's persistence and desire to work there and give then another chance.

Hopefully everybody that wants another go can get one.

I have interviewed there 3 times. 2005 when i had no ACMI long haul experience.
2008 after i had been working for evergreen for 3 years on both the classic and 400. then again in 2010, still working for Evergreen and losing the Dreamlifter to Atlas.
Results first 2 times put in a pool and the last time got the no thank you.

So there is no rhyme or reason that i can see. I am reapplying for number 4 interview and hope to hear something soon. But not holding my breath. This whole experience has made me a realize that I can only do my best and hope that I will get the job. Because I can not see how my growing experience has helped me get the job.
I know that markets shift and it is just a matter of hitting the job market @ the right time. But i also know they have hired pilots over there that I wouldn't trust with my bicycle let alone an airplane.actually its just one pilot so i should not make generalizations. anyway my frustrated attitude and 2 cents
