Will being a FedEx Package Handler Help
 

I'm officially retired from the military at the end of the month. I'm looking for that 2nd dream job. I have my application in with FedEx but I don't have a sponsor or know anyone that works there. Will being a part time Package Handler make much of a difference at getting me hired? It doesn't pay much and the hours aren't great. Will probably leave me a bit short on the bills next month but I'd be willing to do it to try and get an interview or should I find a job that will pay the bills and wait? Any suggestions?:confused:

I think the general response will be it couldnt hurt if you are a good package handler and stick it out for a year. But it may not help much. Noone really knows with the new system. My advice would be to get a flying job and network. You must know someone with FDX. If not apply anyways your numbers look like they are in doctor mengele's sweet spot.

Where did you go to school? SVTpinto thinks the Ivy league is the cats meow and is kinda hot for zoomies.

Keep your flying skills sharp for sure. Whether its flying on the side with a buddy or getting a job with a regional.

I can't comment on whether another job with FedEx would help you though. Hopefully some FedEx guys on here can shed some light on the subject.

I was a handler for 3 years in college, this was about 10 years ago. I did not have the foresight to network then but wish I had now. I am still hoping for that call to fedex I do know that if you are able to work as a permanent part time employee for a year you can do a internal job change and probably get hired from within if you meet all the currency req.
I thought about trying to get hired as a handler again but its too difficult to keep the currency, you have your own plane so that should not be as hard.

when did you interview at SWA? I was there on Dec 15th and got the no thanks. Sucks we have to wait a year.

If you're a zoomie and retiring from the AF, I can guarantee you that you know somebody here. Just start asking some of your classmates who they know. There are plenty of KC135 drivers here also. Getting a recommendation or a sponsor would help a lot.
