'There was of course no way of knowing whether your were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. it was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time....every movement scrutinized"

I'll probably get flamed but......... How about just conduct yourself IAW the FOM and normal decorum in AOC, hubs, layovers, etc. Then it won't matter who's watching.

Great, then you won't have a problem with them putting cameras in your hotel room. They "need" to make sure you're getting your required rest, right?

One of the side benefits of coaching for interviews over the years is I've always told clients to act as if every person they come in contact with is associated with the company in some form or fashion.

And you know, just as teaching guys how to do a break turn, or run a 4-ship in an F-15, the fact you TEACH something should make you better at it. When I looked hard in the mirror five or eight years back, I realized the guy I was seeing didn't always practice what he preached, and especially when busy was sometimes (at best) brusk or at worst a dick.

I'm not perfect now by a long shot, but I try to do better. In this day of cell phone video cameras, Facebook, and instant communication, we ALL could probably use of dose of humility, courtesy, and and social SA. Not casting stones here, as I'm as big or bigger sinner some days than most of you, but again...I'm working on getting better. If it ain't your ACP, or Fleet Captain watching you, some dude with a cell phone just posted your last rant at the hotel desk, drunk fest at the bar, or other embarrassing moment. We've all been warned--its up to us to heed the threat.

Respectfully....(really)....peace out....

I hope we implement sock checks.

 I'm a little fuzzy on how we went from some overblown concern over a management type who might observe us in public to me being "okay" with a camera in my hotel room.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you...

The mentality that goes something like, "If you don't have anything to hide, why are you worried about it?" is what bothers many folks who understand concepts such as security, freedom, rights, privacy, etc.

As pilots, we're already the most over-regulated career in the history of the world, so more intrusion into our lives, whether at work or home, is always defended against and protested. The George Orwell quote above is telling...and probably accurate.

Albie, is of course, right. We should always conduct ourselves as if someone is watching. But that doesn't mean we should be watched. One is decorum and courtesy, the other is surveillance.

As someone else posted earlier - one guy craps his pants and everyone has to wear diapers. I hate this concept, but it is reality because it's money. I believe you should take a man at his word and if found to be "cheating" the system, you are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, named and shamed, publicly flogged, and hopefully that's the end of it.

Sadly, our society has accepted the concept of protecting us from ourselves and willingly accepts such intrusions.

Nice post Albie
.

I think the real concern of this topic is the practice of the "Fedex Culture" to punish the class for the actions of a few. I sincerely hope the Fleet Captain/FCA program is a positive step towards eliminating that.
